I don't know if this is the best section for this but I figured that since the cuban government is the one who runs/controls the cigar making in cuba, this might be a topic to discuss. I only posted part of the news story below because I know some forums have rules about posting complete articles.

US cable: Cuba to be insolvent within 2-3 years

HAVANA – A newly released confidential U.S. diplomatic cable predicted Cuba's economic situation could become "fatal" within two to three years, and detailed concerns from other countries' diplomats — including China — that the communist-run country has been slow to adopt reforms.
The cable was written in February, months before Cuban President Raul Castro announced a major revamp of the island's economy, laying out plans to fire a half-million state workers and open up the island to expanded forms of private enterprise.

I believe this is an often repeated sentiment from the united states over the history of the embargo. But ultimately one that never comes to fruition.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I will say over the last few years that I have been going to cuba things have been getting worse. The country is in a really bad place. The black market economy is isn't even hidden anymore. Everyone seems to be stealing from work just to make ends meet. It really seems to be the people vs the government on the island, at least as far as money goes. The stores have pretty empty shelves so even those that do have money may not be able to buy what they want or need. I try to take what I can to help when I go but who knows what will happen with the government there
