Johnny-Os aren't exactly known to go well with age.I have a Johhny-O baby salomon that I am waiting to spark. Will keep you posted.
I will tell you this. It is beautiful, smells great, and looks like an antique! I believe it has some REAL age on it.
Will post a pic when I get home from work.
I've had some 4+ year old Jonny-O's that I thought were off the frackin' hook...I guess I should clarify:
Johnny-Os with a few months are one thing. I smoked a few with 18 months (IIRC) and they weren't great. I didn't believe it, hence why a fellow BOTL sent some with more time on them to me. I'm not sure with serious age how they would do, but I can't imagine great.
Well, many Habanos go through a sick period followed by a dull period. If the cigars in question are fresh-rolled, it's entirely possible that they are excellent for a while, then become sick (sour, ammonia, etc), then dull. After all that time passes (no idea with these in particular, but it seems like it takes a few years with other brands), it's entirely possible that they will be as good as they were when fresh, and possibly better.I guess I should clarify:

To go on that theory he some times has cigars from "famous rollers" on his sales. Been told some of these are from Santos so they should be very good. Not to make this a thread strictly about Johnny-O's, but he specifically recommended that someone should smoke them fresh within the first month, or after at least one year of aging. Otherwise you will be smoking them during the sick period...
I will say that a lot of custom rolls (from what I have read... never smoked or owned any) use older tobacco. For instance, Ramses, Master Roller from Partagas was recently in Australia for an event, and my understanding is that he used tobacco that was leftover, and had been stored at the Australian warehouse, from the last time he was there, some years before.Well, many Habanos go through a sick period followed by a dull period. Lots of these great rollers are now available outside the island. We are the first ones that will carry the Robaina farm cigars, w/ the blessing of the Hiroshi & Co.It all depends on the roller. Beyond that it depends on what tobacco they have on hand at the time. Some rollers have better access to tobacco then others as well. Santos won a rolling competition at the open of the LCDH at the Habana Libra Hotel. Yolanda at the Melia Habana had awesome Laguito #2's when I was there in feb. Monsdales from the Club havana are always good. Have smoked some great cigars from Allejandro's farm earlier this year. Those tend to be my favorites but again with most it depends what quality tobacco the roller had at the time. Hamlet I believe is one of the best custom rollers on the Island but does not always have the best access to tobacco. When his tobacco is on like last time he was here his cigars are amazing.

I for one can't wait to try your Robaina farm cigars, they sound amazing! :drool:Lots of these great rollers are now available outside the island. We are the first ones that will carry the Robaina farm cigars, w/ the blessing of the Hiroshi & Co.
Others have come to realize that they can move small batches off the island on a regular basis and still claim them as part of their quota.
This will be an exciting time for folks who enjoy great custom-rolled Cuban cigars.
Cheers

That would go against almost every opinion I have ever read or heard about Johnny O's. Great fresh or wait a year plus is what I read or hear 99% of the time.Johnny-Os aren't exactly known to go well with age.
same here... with my current set-up I could age a bundle without issues. That would go against almost every opinion I have ever read or heard about Johnny O's. Great fresh or wait a year plus is what I read or hear 99% of the time.
