So, a buddy from work has become intrigued by cigars, and wants me to send him home with some. Now, he doesn't have a cutter, and for some reason won't spring the extra bucks for one just to try it out. Can I cut em and give them to him in a humidified bag, or will that somehow muck the sticks up in a way I'm not thinking of?

You could always get him a cutter for like 2 bucks at a shop. Even a cheap cutter is still a cutter!

1) icehog3 is right, no issues cutting in advance, but make sure you are cutting high on the cap: too low on the shoulder and it might not stay intact.

2) really like shaunylw's idea of tossing him a cutter! maybe getting him his own gear helps feed his interest?

teach him well, man, and enjoy!

Or he could just get a 2 dollar cutter. it won't affect them I have a ton of smokes that I cut and then change my mind then stick back in my humidors.

Like the posters above stated they should hold fine, most B&M's carry plastic cutters that are dirt cheap or free no reason not to toss one of those his way.
