Any help identifying the attached critter would be appreciated. I live in an area that is on the edge of an Emerald Ash Borer infestation and I have several large ash trees around my house so green bugs make me very paranoid. I found this guy on my driveway yesterday but I have seen several in the back yard recently. From what I can tell online the ash borer looks more like a grasshopper but not being a "bug guy" I'm not sure.

Please let me know what this is if you can. If it is an ash borer I may need to get a bigger chain saw sooner than I had planned.

Thanks,

Rupe

Thanks Brad,

The website was very helpful. It didn't give me the confirmation I was looking for but it pointed me in the right direction. After closer reveiew it looks like this is more than likely a 6 spotted Green Tiger Beetle. According to the Minnesota DNR website the Minnesota variety commonly does not have spots.

Appreciate the help!

That, my friend, is a.......wait for it........wait for it.......green bug. :headroll: Seriously don't know, but Brad's advice was right on point. You find the right person, you may be able to get somebody out to check it for you. The place you got the photo looks like a great spot for an adhesive trap. If you can manage to capture one or two, probably make identification a lot easier.

No worries. That my friend is a Tiger Beetle (family Cicindelidae). Give me a few minutes and I may be able to come up with a species...

EDIT: Just read your second post so you already got it figured out.

For comparison this is an Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis)

And I couldn't help, but include an up close...

COOL....Thanks for the excellent pics. Most of the photos I have seen so far do not do this little monster justice. Not excited about an insect that can take down my 80' trees but it's always good to know who your enemy is.

Now if I can just get rid of those pesky raccoons in the back yard my life will be perfect. I've been trying to live trap them but they keep finding a way to get the bait without getting caught in the trap.

No problem. Just realized I didn't qualify the last statement, the up close face pic is of a Tiger Beetle (in case there's any confusion).

You think you're going to have nightmares? That first SOB is gunning for my ash trees!!! LOL

Now that I know the "face shot" is a tiger beetle I think it's kinda handsome. Especially since it's not going to get my trees.

Tiger beetles are cool! I have an ash tree that has been hit by the ash borer pretty good. Been treating it now sense last summer and still getting new growth out of it. I love the tree and hope I don't completely loose it to those other green bastids!
