As I stated in several earlier posts, L8A (Marty), Zen Cigar Man (Jaime) and I were smoking cigars at Empire Cigars last night. In addition to talking with Manny from LFD, Steve Dickinson, SE Davidoff Rep. was in the store.

Davidoff is moving it's U.S. Headquarters from Connecticut to Tampa Bay, Florida. Steve said it was his understanding the company will take over a recently vacated 100,000-square-foot-plus building to house both the headquarters and warehousing and distribution. The new U.S. headquarters will be in Pinellas Park.

Neeedless to say, Marty, Jaime and I had a very interesting evening at Empire Cigars.

Resurrecting an old thread here. Anyone heard any more on this? I've contacted them as they are supposedly hiring a bunch of people when they open this, but only got the standard boilerplate response back. Trying to find information that actually gets you to someone involved in the hiring over there is just about impossible. I don't even know if they've set a date yet.

I sent an email to the writer that published the original article in the St. Petersburg Times, I will post here if he provides any new/additional info.

Davidoff Cigars accepting resumes for Pinellas Park warehouse
February 4th, 2010 11:36 pm

Davidoff Cigars wants you. They have set up an email address to accept resumes, jobs@ddcls.com, reports the Trib.

Swiss-based Oettinger Davidoff Group announced last week that it would move its American headquarters from Connecticut to Pinellas Park within six months. They are expected to hire up to 90 people at an average salary of $56,000 per year.

The company will import cigars from Honduras and the Dominican Republic. They will use Pinellas Park to distribute the products throughout the U.S.

"What better place to relocate our U.S. headquarters than to an area noted for is superb quality of life and exceptional commitment to supporting business?" Davidoff Chief Executive Officer Reto Cina said in a statement.

Pinellas Park competed against South Carolina for Davidoff and won the company with a series of financial incentives.

Davidoff will be eligible for $288,000 in tax refunds from the state of Florida. Another $36,000 in refunds each from Pinellas Park and Pinellas County will be gained through a program called the Qualified Target Industry program. To win the refunds, the company must create 90 jobs paying 150 percent of the area's average annual wage.
