Just received word that a young man I used to play paintball with passed away today. Last Wednesday, he crashed his motorcycle attempting to do a stunt. He wasn't wearing a helmet. The list of injuries was long, including a coma. Today, he departed this world. He was twenty years old.

It freaks me out. I wasn't even friends with the kid. In fact, we really didn't like each other. But, it's really sad to see him go. No parents should have to bury their own child.

I guess it's just a reminder that life is fragile, and God may choose to call you home at any moment. Being 19, I can't even imagine not being able to live out my life... let alone having my own child and having to bury him or her.

Live life to its fullest, gents. Every single day.
And for you parents, perhaps do something for your kid(s) today... let them stay up that extra 30 minutes, give them that extra scoop of ice cream, whatever.

Sorry to hear. Although you arent that old, you are at the age where you will slowly but surely start losing some people you know. You never think about it when you're 12,13..16 yrs old even. But right around early 20s is when people you know, grew up with, were friends with, start to pass away at a semi regular rate and it only gets more frequent as you get older. I'm not much older than you but this is something I have recently noticed and had to accept. Doesnt make it any easier though.

Never happy to hear about this, but it is a fact of life. Already at 23, my graduating class has lost close to 1 person for every year since we've left highschool. It's a weird feeling to see friends and acquaintances you remember more as teenagers than adults pass away, however you learn to live with it. Perhaps the most shocking realization regarding any scenario like is the sense of reality placed upon you that you're left to reflect on afterword, at 18-19 I really began to loose that sense of youthful invincibility as a result.

It's sad and my prayers go out to his family... Makes you wonder if he would still be here had he had protective equipment on and riding responsibly

I don't mean to be insensitive to him in any way... but this pretty much how most people figured he would go. He's been riding like that since the day he turned 16. Perhaps it's how he would have actually wanted to go, he loved riding. Who knows.

There is one thing in life that is certain. You will die no matter what. As bad as that sounds I work in the insurance field. There is nothing worse than getting the call from a family member of one of my clients to tell me the news. I've actually had tears on the phone on more than one occassion. It never gets easier hearing the news and I get it more than I want to think about. Crazy thing is only about 20% of the calls are people that you might suspect didn't have much more time left due to age and health. The other 80% are total blindsides.

yup... it's sad! I had the same thing happen to a friend. He had spent 500 bux on a great looking helmet, and was out riding without it. He hit a car that ran a light and flipped off. His only injury was the one that could have been prevented by wearing the helmet.

Sorry to hear it. The sad part is those he was close to and knew are the ones that have to deal with the results of his stupidity.

It's my biggest bitch with guys/states with no helmet laws. You may choose NOT to where a helmet but take into the consideration of the trama and sadness caused by your selfishness. Just saying.
Sorry to hear of this young loss of life.

Lost one of my best friends when I was around 21 in a car accident one of the most difficult things was watching his parents bury their only son. Definitely makes you think twice about some of the shit you pull in life.
