I bought this used laptop several months ago via CraigsList. I've had good luck with Dell systems and this one seemed to work fine, plus it was still under warranty. A few weeks later, I started experiencing this nagging issue with the mouse pointer that has even stumped the Dell tech support folks. Although I'm sure that's not totally difficult to accomplish.

Basically, the mouse pointer on the screen goes into a flickering mode, which causes the whole system to be unresponsive. It's like the mouse is sucking up all the system resources. I have to press any key (not THE any key) to get control back. It will then repeat this process off and on for awhile, stopping for no apparent reason. Dell has replaced the motherboard and trackpad. I've reinstalled XP from scratch and all drivers / utility software. Pre-boot diagnostics show no issue with CPU or memory. I have no viruses or spyware reported. I normally use an external USB mouse with the trackpad and stick pointer disabled. I've used other mice and the trackpad, but this did not help.

During my last support call, the tech had me disconnect and reseat the keyboard. This seemed to chase the problem away for a few weeks, but now it's back again. I called Friday and they are sending a replacement keyboard. Thank God this unit is still under warranty, but this issue is driving me nuts.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

Thats weird especially since your logic board has recently been replaced. I would contact the seller from craigs list and be like hey I have a question for you. Don't be all mad but ask him if he has had this issue in the past and how he corrected it. I would say get an external HDD and do a full image and send the dell to get replaced. One you get a new one back just copy the old files back onto the new HDD.

I bought this from a private party - and it seemed perfectly fine at the time. He said he never had any problems. However, if it wasn't under warranty, I would have already been after him for a refund.

I do not think a full replacement laptop is an option, but the way it's going, all the components may be swapped out before too much longer. Perhaps Dell might just consider a replacement as a less expensive option vs. me calling support every 4 weeks. :dunno:

Call the warranty number and ask how many times you have to send it in for the same problem before they do a replacement on the unit.
