According to an article in Slate the world consumes about 14 trillion tons of peat annually of which scotch production accounts for about 5-6 trillion. So while this is only about 0.1 percent of the global peat resource it is nonetheless worrisome as many turn to alternative fuels due to the rising cost of petroleum. So, in other words, scotch producers are creating a false narrative in an effort to incite scare-purchases to boost scotch sales.They are if harvested properly.
