Anybody else do it?

Right now I'm building a full system, including speakers, cables, amp, pre-amp, and various other doo-dads from scratch using tubes.

If I succeed in completing it the system should be awesome, but it's an uphill battle.

That sounds pretty sweet. I have seen guys make headphone amps out of altoids tins, I guess this is the same idea on a bigger scale. I don't have the space to put all the equipment right now and we have a pretty decent stereo I can use, but theres nothing like the sound of a tube amp.

In a sense, but way more advanced. Tube instead of solid state, phased power instead of a double A battery, 1/4" mono locking banana clip plugs instead of 1/8" stereo.

My altoid tin headphone amp lead up to this, I suppose. It was my first home brewed amp.

This sounds intiriguing. Do you plan on documenting the entire procedure?
I do, if I can get a new camera or a larger flash card for my phone. Pictures, parts lists, work in progress write ups and shots.

Everything is going to be designed by me except the inner workings like crossovers, the amp themselves, etc. Those I'm getting from bottlehead.com, with some slight modifications so I dont have to use their $700 transformers and junk.

Ah yes, BottleHead. Last year I almost bought and built a S.E.X amp but decided my funds could be better used.

This year about the same thing when I thought of the BK16 kit over at Madisound.

I'm pretty happy right now with my inexpensive setup. I don't have anywhere in the house that I'm able to do any critical listening so my rig does me fine.
