Good day all,

So I had a question I thought I would post up and ask about. I have someone I work with who is heading down to the Dominican staying in Samana and she knows I'm a huge cigar fan (ONL had nothing to do with that right :S lol)

I was wondering what the price is like down there for sticks and what I should be looking at bring up. I have a fairly limited budget were talking about $40-50. Let me know.

Thanks,
JM

I didnt find cigar prices in the DR... even for locally produced cigars.. to be that much cheaper than what they can be had for here in the US (I live in a state where the tobacco tax is reasonable)...

I have only purchased cigars in the DR in resort areas (punta cana) and in Santo Domingo in a pretty touristy area (old city) though.. so that might have impacted prices.. Im not sure what sort of prices she will be able to come up with in Samana.. but thats pretty touristy/resort laden as well.. Im going to guess stogie prices are a little inflated around there..

Ya I'm just curious cause she asked. I know what's made there so that's why I was curious. You guys are awesome. Also we don't see much DR here in Canada it's pretty much CC.

Hey bro, buying in Samana or any town is kinda difficult. Shady stores or really expensive stores...the capital city has the best stores available, and the prices are not that far from US prices anymore, prolly 1-3 dollars of difference (depending on the brand).

Good dominican brands which I recommend you buy off the internet? EPCarrillo, Arturo Fuentes, Aging Room (they are made in the DR), LFD, Nat Sherman, some Quesadas, Davidoffs and Pinar del Rio.

Im not so sure.. you might want to check...

I think you guys get hit with some pretty hefty taxes in Canada..

If she isnt going to get clobbered by customs when she gets back to Toronto.. you might be able to pick up a few things for a little bit less than what you would be able to get them for at home..

That's what I was thinking. Giving her a few bucks and giving her a list of different sticks for her to bring back for me.

What would you guys say I should put up on this list and a rough price for each stick.

Where is she flying into?

Maybe something at duty free is a good option?

If thats the case.. she is likely going to hit Santo Domingo at some point during her trip...

there are numerous nice cigar shops there.. Im sure apaniagua can direct you to a couple of really good ones where prices are fair (the one I always visit is at the Parque Colon.. but I am sure it is over priced (in an area full of tourists))...

Hahaha, yup, overpriced...man, I can't believe you have come here and we have not smoked together yet!

Yes, better stores in Santo Domingo than any other city. If you can make sure they go to Santo Domingo, in the center of the city there's a store called "Cabinet" . PM me and we'll get into details.

I havent been in a few years.. I transited through Santo Domingo quite a bit right after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti (until they got the PaP airport re-opened, we just flew into SD, and then drove over to PAP)... and I made several trips to SD from 1999-2003 when I was doing a lot of short duration work in Haiti.. (working there for 30-45 days at a time.. then coming back to the US...)...

SD is where we all went to escape Haiti for a few days and relax :)
