I only had one Don Tomas cigar and it wasn't so great. I just read this on SeriousCigars and it may explain it.

Back in the days before the cigar boom of the 1990s, Dom Tomas cigars were made in Danli, Honduras with tobaccos acquired from nearby Honduran and Nicaraguan tobacco farms. These originals had all the well known characturistics of a hand rolled Honduran cigar: consistently rich flavors with a smoothness that made them a pleasure to smoke.

During the boom, however, these tobaccos became scarce and, because of the shortage, also became more expensive. So the makers of Don Tomas turned to alternate sources, like Indonesia, Columbia and Mexico where the supply of tobacco was more abundant, if not slightly less quality, and less costly. Until today, Don Tomas has continued to use these less than optimum tobaccos for their Natural and Maduro blends.

Today, under the guidance of Villazons renowned cigar master, Estelo Padron, the Don Tomas Clasico returns to its classic Honduran roots with new blends that once again use the rich, full-flavored Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos that made the original Dom Tomas one of the best Honduran cigars in the world.
I was wondering if anyone has experience with this brand and if it has improved from past years.

I mean singles are pretty darn cheap on SeriousCigars so next time I order from them I may just pick up one or two.

Smoked early Don Tomas back in the day and liked them. The 1990s sucked for so many reasons. The cigar and comic book industries both almost destroyed themselves with greed.

I'll puff on a Don Tom Maddie while BBQ'ing or doing other activities where I might decide to pitch the cigar half way into it.
I mean....I smoked worse than a Don Tom in my day.

Well never had the pleasure of smoking the pre cigar boom. but have to say it's a good pass out cigar or high quality yard gar. they definately do improve slightly with age if you like honduran tobacco flavors. If the price is right no harm in picking up a fiver.

I think that these are one of the best price/stick cigars out there. I have given plenty of them out to people who are not into cigars, but want to have one if I have a stick going. They have all said it is enjoyable, as the naturals are mild/medium bodied with mild/medium strength.
I do not like the Mexican maduro wrapper that they use though, it sure seems a lot more bitter in my opinion than the natural. If you are looking for a flavor bomb, these are not what you want, but they stay nice and consistant throughout until the end where it does give some nice toasty tobacco flavors as the tars build up nicely.
I have smoked the Rothschilds, Robustos, and have half a box left of Presidente's. In my opinion I would buy a couple to try out, you can't go wrong for the price, but they are deffinitely worth a look. I have never had a problem with construction on these as well, they might be a little tighter on the draw once in a while, but never had a plugged one or any that have blown up on me.
They are made by General Cigar now too, so you know you are getting big company tobacco...for what that's worth.

I really like the Don Tomas Clasico.

And I'm interested in trying the Special Edition Connecticut that's available from FSS.
