Been wanting to post this for a while and with it being veterans day thought no better day for it. Our Military men and women sacrifice a lot in service to this country especially around the holidays. I know lot of people want to support the troops but feel they don't have the time or money to do so, well here are a couple things i do that take very little time and money.

Tip 1: this is perfect for those who have large families getting together for thanksgiving. Go to the local dollar store(every town has em) and get some simple greeting cards and on thanksgiving give one to each of your family members and tell them to write a message/thank you to the troops (don't forget to involve the kids). If they don't know what to write tell em just to put "thank you for your service" or "I am grateful/thankful for your service" You could also do this at your workplace just ask your boss if you can put a stack of cards and a box in the break-room or meeting area.

Tip 2: Send them your old magazines. Do you have magazine subscriptions and don't know what to do with them after you've read them? instead of tossing em in the garbage/recycle bin why not send them to the troops. A little known fact that magazine fits perfectly into a USPS medium size flat rate box. So ship those old Car and Driver, Maxim's, Sports illustratedRemeber we have women in our military so you can finally get rid of that stack of Vogue your wife wont get rid of. don't forget to ask friends and family, also i scored big going to the local library they throw away the old issues so no harm in stopping by and asking what they do with them

Oh and if your thing is that you don't have an address, just go to anysoldier.com and get one. oh and if anyone has any other quick and easy ideas feel free to post em.

+1:thumbsup:

Excellent post Daniel.

I would just like to add that many people think international shipping is just to expensive to send stuff to our troops but the Post Office actually considers any APO address as domestic shipping so you can send a Priority Flat Rate Box just as cheap to them as you could to your next door neighbor.

Good Post, and I would include that many of the troops enjoy receiving cigars to smoke. The troops often get boxes of soap and shampoo etc, but the boxes of Cigars are what really get the attention.

Does anyone have a BOTL overseas they are planning to ship to? I would be willing to throw a few sticks in.

I'm actually working on sending a care package over to the sandbox. If anybody is interested in sending stuff over, throw me a PM.

Agreed, I am spoken to some of my friends that have been over there and they said there is nothing better than coming back for the day and having a cigar and enjoying time with the people they are serving with.
