Is it me or are the DC that are out there all mild and mostly boring? I have tried Bolivar Gigantes, RAG's, Lusitania's, ERdM Tainos just to name a few with various years on them is what I am talking about. All seem to be very mild. All are less tasty they the smaller sticks in their respective lines. Most know I smoke mostly PC and TPC sizes. Those smaller size sticks are flavor bombs and are mostly stronger. Am I missing something or is that by intent? I thought there would be more development with these larger sticks as there is more tobacco to blend, all I get is bland....

I think they do tend to be a bit milder, I think they may do that on purpose so you do not fry your tongue. I must agree the flavors are a bit more subtle, but I really enjoy HDM DCs when I am in the mood for a mild to medium smoke. I had a '03 the other day that was still medium in body and had some great flavor. I enjoy a Lusi every now and then also.

The larger sticks are blended to be milder, thus they usually are not as intense or demanding of your attention as the smaller ones. They can be nice on occasion for a change of pace, but I find I often don't have the 2.5-3 hours required to smoke a DC. I'd rather get in a couple smaller sticks. Nevertheless, a well aged Lusi or Sir Winston can be excellent, as can a number of other Churchills/DC's. I have a 94 RAG, I'm trying to find time to smoke, and that should be excellent.

I love a Lusi, I think that you should try one fresh and see if that does it, and maybe let em sit for 5 years. I've found I like Lusi's all the time, and for me the HdM needs about 3 years min. to get some non-grassy taste.

I guess I can't speak to much experience on the CC side of life, but in general, I used to like the toro/torpedo sized cigars but now find myself gravitating to smaller ring gauge sizes like corona, petit corona, and lonsdale for the exact reason you describe... seems to be more flavor (in most cases). Though, I'll won't be turning away a robusto, toro, torpedo, churchill or DC cigar if it's a line I know I like in smaller ring gauges.

OK, so I am not crazy then judging by the responses so far. Maybe when they changed to more mild blends years ago many of the larger sticks suffered the most in flavor loss and strength. I get the whole aging thing and letting the tobacco blend and mature for the larger RG sticks. But damn it if each one I try just does not do it for me at all.

No time for these, so I don't really have many in inventory. I might smoke 2 or 3 a year, if that.

When looking at NCs I can say this is right on. The opus x A is very mild, while the xXx is a strong little sucker. I think because if they made an A as strong as the xXx they would kill people.

I love me some 10 year old hdm dcs. Tummy. Also the bolivar DC's that came out last year for the middle east were full of flavor although not as strong as your typical bolivar.

As mentioned the DC's are a milder smoke as not to many people want to smoke a powerhouse of a cigar for that long of a time. But of the DC's I've smoked The RAG, VRDA & the SLR DC's would be my top 3 choices.

If you're looking to get rid of the tainos I'm interested. With that out of the way I don't think people are much interested in DC's any more from what my LCDH tells me they're going out of style.

I smoke mostly smaller cigars because of time constraints. that being said, some of the best cigars I have ever had are churchills and larger. Give me a 10+ year old Sir winnie or a Cohiba DC03 EL and I'm in heaven. Although very mild, I had a 10 year old monte A awhile back that was simply amazing. I finished off my last Tainos and I'm seriously thinking of paying the $500 plus that they are going for now for another box.

Thanks for the post. I have not had the privilege to have a 10 year old Sir Winston or a Cohiba DC03 to compare to the ones I mentioned as boring. For the price and time restraints I guess buying PC and TPC will be my normal buys and the occasional CG or robusto mixed in with singles and 5ers of the larger stuff will work.
