Draconian proposal in Oregon

Just came across an article this morning about a bill proposed in the Oregon legislature to classify nicotine as a controlled substance and require a prescription for posession and use. Even the guy that introduced it does not expect it to pass but he did say "If it doesn't pass, I hope that it will enhance the probability of an increase in the cigarette tax passing."

basically this guy is saying.. "im gonna draft a bill, that I know no one wants, and will never pass... but by doing that, I will actually further my agenda that is most likely not wanted either since I feel like I need to play games like drafting this worthless bill in order to get people to hear me..."...

if you want an increase in tobacco tax... ask for one.. see what the PEOPLE say.. its them that you serve..

He's hoping the extremeness of the bill he's proposing will get him media attention, pure and simple. Whether he cares about the issue and wants the issue to get media attention as well, I do not know. This sort of thing happens all the time. It's stupid, though, and the American people are not exactly happy with politicians right now, so it could backfire on him (I HOPE it does).
