Drew Estates Dirt Review

I apologize if this is a dumb question, I'm what you would refer to as a newbie. I really like the Drew Estate 'Dirts'. I was reading this review:

Pre-light, I was immediately hit with the sweetness and taste of the wrapper. Deeply sweet chocolate, caramel, vanilla, bourbon type of taste. Earthy, but sweet and chocolatey. Better tasting than other flavored cigars I have smoked.

I didn't realize the wrappers had a taste, I usually take them off before I smoke. Can anybody elaborate on this? Is this something just for the Drew Estates?

:scratchhe:Not sure if the terminology is getting confused here or not. Also never had a drew estates infused cigar.

A cigar is made up of the "Filler" which are the leave in the middle that are the blended part, The binder is that warp that hold the filler together. The "Wrapper" is the most expensive part usually of the cigar that goes over the binder and provide the seal /wrapping, etc and a lot of the flavor as well....

If by wrapper you mean plastic, cello, foil, etc, then yes you are supposed to take that off. If you are truly taking of the "wrapper" then you are missing out on the cigar as the wrapper contributes much to the flavor...not even sure how it would smoke....

He's not referring to the cellophane if that's what you're wondering. What he's saying is that without lighting it, the taste of the stick when you put it in your mouth is sweetness. Hope this helps. Keep reading on this forum and you'll learn a lot more.

There are stories of individuals that smoked a cigar with the cedar-wrap on it.

cedar wrap minus the tape might actually add some nice flavor. I do like the smell of cedar when it burns. :smokingme

Cedar maybe, but cello.... was not good, gave me a good laugh though when I figured it out, I blame the liquor store for having the Bacardi on sale

The one that catches me every once in a while is when they put a label on the foot like the ruination and when lighting in the dark and after a few I have been known to light that on fire.

I have heard you can use the cedar wrap as a spill.

You can use it as a spill, but it usually burns very quick, and because it's so thin it will go all over the place if it's even a tiny bit windy... light ash everywhere!

If you want a spill, just slide the cedar liners out of a couple boxes and use a utility knife to cut them down to about twice the size of a matchstick in width.... I usually get two or three stogies lit with each of those and mmmmm the cedary goodness!

The Dirt is part of the Naturals line ... NATURAL, as in not infused. The Dirt is not an infused or flavored cigar. Some of the Natirals do have sweetened tips like the Flor de Oliva, I'm not sure if the Dirt does or not.

It's not bad, but I prefer the Root.

Although I am not a huge DE fan Drew Estate Cigars can be a great experience at times. I find the Irish Hops to be my Favorite and then the Java. I only smoke them about once a month as I find them to be a treat and just something off the norm. My wife likes the "Blondie" however I find it way to strong on the infusion and don't care for it at all.
You need to clarify what you ment by wrapper first of all and as far as your review I'd say that's a far assesmenet on the flavor.
Being new to cigars can be a confusing experience. If you have any questions before you spend money, ask the brothers here. Taste is an idividual thing however cigar etiquette is universal! :cjump:

Thanks Starz26, I think it was the terminology. I wasn't referring to the cellphane, I thought he was referring to the paper wrapper with the Drew Estates logo.

I don't smoke a DE stick that is not a #9, T-52 or a Flying Pig (or a Dirty Rat)...

All of the other sticks he makes can be sucked into a vortex of time and space never to be seen again for all I care...
