Got the Motorola Droid today, still trying to figure out the whole app thing, how to create ringtones (not even close on that one yet). Either way, it looks like I'll like it, but I'm still in the beginning of the learning curve, long way to go.

My phone makes phone calls. This is actually an fancy one compared to my last it has a camera (couldn't avoid it) and it can send texts. My old phone was bare bones no camera no texting. Eventually you'll be able to plug one of these smart phones into your brain stem to be a real droid!

Im with sprint as they piggyback on verizons network and vice versa and I cant beat the rate. Im a looking at the HTC Hero or Samsung Moment.
The Moment has the full qwerty keyboard but the Hero as a better and customizable UI(user interface) for the non geeks

Apparently they sold 100,000 units the first weekend. Hoping to put a dent in IPhone losses. Nice phone

OK, I absolutely LOVE this freakin' phone. Now of course, it's my first smart phone so it's a whole new world for me.

My dislikes:
1) When the screen times out, I have to hit the power button on top to get the screen to come back on, which makes sense so you don't accidentally hit a button with your butt or whatever, but it would be nice to be able to just touch the screen to bring it back.

2) I have an e-mail app that I can't delete, I think it was on the phone when I got it.

My Likes:
1) Love all the free apps
Bartender apps
golf course locator apps
weather bug
Pandora
Compass
golf score card
yellow pages
restaurant finders
poker blinds timer
useless facts
Beavis & Butthead sound bytes (LOL, one of my favorites)

2) The screen is simply amazingly clear
3) I can plug a cable into my headphone jack and use my car stereo to listen to phone calls
4) It tool all my songs from iTunes without a hitch
5) The camera 5 Mega Pixel with flash is awesome
6) Uploading pics from my computer was easy, and DAMN do they look fantastic on the phone

I just love this damn phone!

I thought you were the anti Techy
Not anti-techy, but more of a technotard. But I'm getting there, so far I've yet to pay for an app. But I really want to figure out how to take songs on my phone, and convert them into ringtones. I know it can be done, just have no clue on how to do it yet. Anybody know how?

I just got the iphone and I love it. I was thinking about the droid as well before I made my decision. Looks like a great phone.
The coverage was a huge factor here in WI, ATT coverage is poor here, Verizon is awesome, plus I really liked 95% of the features of the Droid better, I had my heart set on an iPhone for the last year, but changed in the last month.

Nice! I hear good things about the Droid! Sounds really cool - I have AT&T, but I'll stick with using the phone for talking/texting (sh!tty cam) and the computers for internets, at least for the time being..

Do you use itunes, or no? If you do I can help you as it's really easy, otherwise I haven't looked into it. I have created many ring tones of certain parts of songs all for free... it's pretty cool!

If you use iTunes, follow these instructions...
http://www.ehow.com/how_2160460_custom-iphone-ringtones-free.html

That may be more for the iphone but you can see how to create the ring tone file and then just transfer the created file to your phone via blue tooth or USB cable.

If that website isn't self explanatory, there are many other sites that show you how to do this. I used a different site before but couldn't find the directions I used but it's all the same. I just googled "create ring tones in itunes"

Good luck!
