Hey guys. If anyone is from the Durham area (or I guess Raleigh as well) I'm going to be coming down that way over the 4th of July weekend. Long story short, I'm looking to relocate and want to see if I like it there.

Can you recommend a place to stay, and some sights / places I need to see? I just want to get a sense of what the area has to offer in a weekend. :) I know its asking a lot, but I gotta do what I can to see if i like it enough to move there.

The GF will be going to school down there, and there a possible work opportunity for me in Research Triangle Park.

I live about an hour east of Durham, but work in Durham/RTP. What to do.......:sleep:......dodging bullets in Durham. If you like baseball there's the Durham Bulls and Carolina Mudcats....other than that I do not have a whole lot more to offer except cigars:

JR's in Burlington and Selma.
K&S cigars in Cary (my favorite B&M for price and selection).
Tobaconist of Cary (Wed night herfs)
Capital City Cigars (Thur night herfs) (North Raleigh)

What are looking for in a hotel and what do you want to be near?

haha, well that's good to know as well. Is Durham not the best place to live? I'd be working out of RTP, so should I be looking for somewhere else? Granted, it can't get too much worse than Baltimore city, but at least here I know which parts of the city to avoid :)

hotel, just something clean and semi-nice. outdoor poor would be killer, but not a req. i'll probably end up staying somewhere near rtp.

The Radisson is nice. Lots of hotels in the RTP area. My company puts the high level visitors up in the Sheraton or Hilton, just off of I-40/Page Road. The regular folks get the Wingate Inn.

I don't know much about living in Durham, except that some areas are not the place to be. The closer to the RTP area the better. Alternately on the other side of RTP is Cary (Containment Area for Relocated Yankees). Either way, plenty of housing is available.

haha, for sure. and cary sounds good :) although I don't know what I am. Maryland is considered a southern state by location, but I don't know if we're considered southerners :)
