It may look like a Montecristo at first glance, but don't be fooled.

This is the Edmundo Dantes El Conde 109, the new Cuban regional-edition cigar rolled exclusively for Mexico. True, the band resembles Montecristo and the name alludes to a character in The Count of Montecristo, but the Edmundo Dantes is its own brand altogether. It is the result of a collaboration between Habanos S.A. and Max Gutmann, Habanos importer for Mexico.

Some collectors may recognize the tapered head that was modeled after the Partagas 109 cigars found in the 150th Anniversary humidor, a favorite of Gutmann's.

They do look good. I haven't ponied up the money for any, but I guess a box of these would be better than a box of Monte #4 since they're at the same price point.

You can find the Monte R4's for about $511, and the cheapest I've found the Dantes is $660 (all sold out).

I've got two of the Dantes and I'm staying away from the Monte Reservas.

That's still more money than I'd care to pay for a PC. I'd rather just age 3 boxes of Monte #4's for 3 years :thumbsup:

There are a lot of things that I would rather get than the El Condes. They look awesome but Habanos is really getting greedy with the prices for the ER's. I would hate to see what they would charge for the US ER.

LCDH in Guadalajara (my home city) has some boxes of them, but they are dang too expensive!! I wonder if they are worth the price.
