Ever-Increasing Ring Size

I've noticed that cigar ring sizes have been increasing over the years, from when 50-ring robustos were the big boys, to nowadays where it is common to find ring sizes at 54-60. While I have no problem with this as I think it "manly" to herf a big ol' bad boy (been smoking Casa Blanca 66-ring Half-Jeroabaums for years), I've started wondering if this trend will continue.

Any thoughts?

I personally do not enjoy large rings... Robustos are fine... but 60 and up? I dont get it!!
I know guys at the shop I frequent that smoke the biggest cigar every time... And they enjoy it. Me, not so much. Had a 60 Grand Cru, and as good as the flavors were, and the cigar burned etc... I did not enjoy it so much because of the size. Just not something i'd go to. The smaller sizes are great for me.
There is a cigar for everyone.

Wouldn't you like to know?
Nope I think this trend is mostly done. Sure there will be some of the big boys out there as some cigars are great in that size but I really think the resurgence of the Lancero and Corona means that it is leveling off. 5 years ago lanceros were pretty rare now many blend offer one. Even better rumour is the ninfa at a 28rg.

I often do not smoke over 50 ring gauge, but there are exceptions:

Gran Cojonu
Guapos
Mysterio
Air Benders
MJ12

... and those are just the ones off the top of my head.

a 52 is stretching it for me. I have some 70 rg Inmenso dinosaurs from Perdomo they're good cigars but I just can't bring myself to smoke that big of a smoke. Just last night while I was at work some colorful truck driver came in only caring about getting a 60rg even though he liked a 6x60 Camacho Connie and we had other Camacho Connies in stock he wanted a bigger cigar "smaller ones are too girlie" he says.

I hate waiting on customers concerned about size. There's an asshole the comes in for free boxes all the time and wants a 6x40. To save my life I don't know of a company that makes a 6x40 cigar! I told him there are some 7x40s (not many) and petite coronas that might fit his RG preference but nothing in his imaginary length perfect cigar for length.

I usually go for something in the neighborhood of a Corona size. Whenever I try the bigger RGs that seem to be coming out all the time these days, I can't help feeling like Baby Herman...

Is that a hard hat diving helmet? My cousin is a US Navy Salvage/construction/demolition diver. Only reason I know anything about diving besides PADI. I take it from your name it might be the case.

I tend to go for coronas. I just think they taste better... Big boys just seem to have too much filler IMHO. More concentrated flavor in the traditional sizes .. Corona and Churchill.

I have noticed that the larger ring sizes seem to affect the burn, so I usually stick to around a 50 RS and so far that seems to work. However I dont know if the trend on the RS increase is intentional or accidental, but I guess only time will tell.

50 is about as high as I go, but I feel most Corona sized cigars taste best to me, but I still enjoy a great Robusto.

I'll smoke the bigguns, but usually prefer a smaller rg. Though I did smoke a Cain Habano 60-ring this weekend and it was delicious!

The larger cigars just don't have the same concentrated flavor that a corona gorda or petite corona, etc. will have.

Yes it is. I'm a commercial diver (mostly offshore oil fields) and ex-PADI instructor. Sadly, at the moment there's not enough work to keep me stocked with cigars

Sorry to everyone else for being off-topic there

Adam, there are only two cigars that come to mind that are that length and ring gauge the Royal Jamaica New York Plaza and the AVO XO Preludio .
