External Hard Drive Enclosure Help

After some research online and some head scratching....

I need to format the drive before putting it in the external enclosure. The only problem is the drive is an SATA and my PC doesn't have that(why I bought the external case). So, I am going to have a friend do it or the IT guys at work.

Yea, things get confusing at times.

That is kinda odd... every external case I've had let me format it while using the case. If you want to add sata to your computer, all you need is a card to stick in the machine, they also have eSATA enclosures which is wayyy faster than USB or firewire. Its like having internal speeds but externally.

Yea I'm not sure what the deal is.

I'm bringing it in tomorrow and the IT guy is gonna format it for me. Hopefully that does the trick

If it was showing up as a different type of device though, that was kinda weird. Never seen one do that. See if it does it on other computers. Might have to force windows to select the right device (might be a good idea to find out which one it says on another machine and write it down)

Update

I had the drive quick formated, connected it back to my PC and it recognized it instantly.
