What is the opinion of the group on the value/price of a Liga Provida Unico UF-4 per stick? This years release in good condition. They sold at casa for $12.95 each from what I can tell IF you were standing there at the Drew event, and IF they had any left for you. Rarity has to count into the price somewhat since they aren't released but once a year from what I can tell. I'm having a hard time imagining them being so good that they're worth more than $30 a stick. The Padron Family Reserve 44 Natural is $31 each, and I know that they are KILLER, and I love them. Two totally different sticks, but I'm wondering in my head "How good could they possibly be?" I think that I have an attraction to things that are hard to get/find/rare and that they get built up in my mind.....:crosseyed

All I know is, they sold online direct from TQC for $18/ea if you were lucky enough to get them that way, and that was the cheapest option for nearly everyone. Even if you went to the event, you had to buy a box, and pay sales tax.

I would say definitely not worth $30. Honestly, I have a hard time finding ANY stick worth $30ea, and I've paid that and smoked a couple. Once the price gets to about $15, that's about where my maximum return on investment caps out. Anything much over that and they payoff just isn't there, especially given the plethora of amazing sticks below that price point.

To each their own, as is said every time this discussion comes up.

As lilninja said, to me there are almost no smokes that are 'worth' $30 a piece. That's not to say I've never splurged on one at or above that price. I always treat myself to something nice on the patio at Casa Fuente, or if I visit a cigar shop with brothers, since those are not things I get the chance to do often. If you have the disposable income and it's something you want to try or you have some occasion to celebrate, go for it.

For something that just came out I'd pay 2-3 bucks more a stick for the convenience. If I can't find them at my price, I lose interest then move on to the next LE du jour. It's just a cigar after all.

Brent, this right here just changed my mind, I almost never spend this much on a stick, even $20, but from now on if I'm smoking with BOTL bros, I'm going big, because getting together with the boys happens so rarely. That said, a stick to me will never live up to the price tag...it's is this experience, these brothers, this moment worth $30, answer probably yes.

The way I see it: although I have not smoked this recent release, I do have a couple coming. I did smoke the original release. They were IMO a fantastic smoke. But I felt they were very similar to the UF-13, smoother. Now the UF-13 is easily my favorite cigar this year. Would I pay 30 bucks for one? No, but I smoke a ton of them at 13 bucks. I'd go a bit higher for the UF-4 because of the rarity.

After tax they were about 17.35 at Casa and everyone was entitled to buy at least 5. Additionally they had a surplus at the end of the night. I picked some up for a few brothers here and charged them exactly what I paid. That said I wouldn't personally mind paying a few bucks more per stick, but that's about it. It's a plant at the end of the day… yeah it's tasty, but it's a frickin plant.

Ligas are always gonna have a crazy 2nd market... part of the game.

I called Casa yesterday too see if they would sell any singles cause I missed the event and he said they wouldn't split up the sampler online because they wanted to move everything together, such is life. He also sounded pretty upset that I asked... like I was the 9,000,000,000 person to call and ask

I appreciate all the replies. I got the price info from the Casa site for what they WERE selling a 6 pack for. Either way, no where near $30 a stick. I'm starting to feel the same way about cost, there's just too much good stuff for a lot less $$ to be chasing the unfindable unobtainable cigar that costs too much $$. Would it be nice to have picked some up at the event? sure. I also figure if I'm going to smoke anything it darn well better be good! Especially with friends.

Thanks!

You got the right idea brother; 75% of the HTF stuff I find spends a few years in my humidor and then get smoked by someone else lol Smoke what you love, love what you smoke.
