My neighbour went to Punta Cana, and stayed on a dreams resort there. Im pretty sure there are a few in the Punta Cana area. I told him just to buy some local cigars and enjoy them, and stay away from the name brands. He didnt listen.

He was all proud to show me the 'Cuban' cigar purchases he made. I almost didnt have the heart to tell him.

I felt bad, and 'traded' him a few real Cohiba Robusto's, for a fake one, and the box so I could share it with you folks. So many things wrong here, I wont bother to waste time to list.

Smells just like some local cigars I picked up in the DR when I was last there. Not that great Cuban smell.

The big thing here is, he was told by everyone to only buy from the cigar stores on resort. Seeing as Dreams is a very trusted name in resorts, he thought he would be ok, but that means nothing. He paid $50 for the box. He also got taken on a pack of Cohiba Pantanellas, which is worse then the Robustos... I'll post later.

Wow, what a shame.

I have to hand it to you! Your a real upstanding guy for not saying anything and trading the real deal too.

A WOOD Cohiba robo five pack?!?!?!?! At least it does not have a glass top.

Just to clarify, I did end up telling him they were fakes, and told him I would trade him a few real ones for a fake and the box. He was very appreciative. Made him get the rest of the fakes out of his humidor, and place store them separate in case of tobacco bugs.

Good for you brother... way to trade him the real thing. I just don't understand the philosophy of people not wanting to tell the truth to their friends. I can understand not wanting to mess with a total stranger who has some fakes, but if it's a real friend, why not tell them the truth to help educate them so it doesn't happen in the future??

And wow, a 5-count wood box!?! LOL

A friend of mines wife gave him a box of "esplendidos" as a wedding present. She worked with a Cuban woman who sold them to her for $200 for a 25 count box. Usually I would tell the person but in my mind a wedding gift from a friends wife is better left alone.

I always feel a bit bad for friends who come back from vacations with their great "cuban" cigar finds. Good catch.

Because some people will take the anger they feel because they bought fakes and direct it at you for pointing out the truth. Kind of the whole "shoot the messenger" thing. For whatever reason, they feel that they have to be pissed at someone, and for pointing their mistake out you become the scape goat. I've never understand that either, but some people are like that.

JNT,
That is a class act man, really really cool of you to do that for your friend. Way to go.

Ask him if the guy looked like this!

Good for you for sharing the share btw. Once he gets the taste of the real Coros he wont make the mistake again!
