I saw this spread in Grand Caymen.
I was so tempted. I have been enjoying NC's for a few
years now but still consider myself new to cigars especially
CC's. Do you think these are all fakes? I know you cannot
see inside the boxes but what are your experiences with
overseas purchases not including La Casa del Habano stores.

The boxes aren't bad, but then again the picture quality sucks. They're more than likely fake since most in Mexico aren't. Unless you buy from a LCdH.

Traveling with a true Aficionado in Europe a while back we stopped at the duty free shop in Zurich on our way to England. We had smoked some very nice CC's and I was looking for a few to take with me to smoke in London. He stopped me and pointed out the caps and boxes that I would have missed. Clearly a number of fakes. I was astonished as I figured duty free...govt etc. Go with a trusted vendor or LCDH is buying from a store.

Considering.....

1) they are all surrounding boxes of glass topped Cohibas, which are the most celebrated fakes in the Carribean....

2) they are sitting out in the open, (not in a humidified area) with all the other touristy stuff....

They've got fake written all over them.

I've been to Grand Cayman every summer for the past 10 years, and believe me..... I have seen my share of fakes!

Just so you know, I'm not giving advice, I'm giving a testimonial. It's where I bought my first "cuban". A few years later, it was easily obvious to me that I'd been had.

I've never been to the Grand Cayman, but the #1 rule of habanos buying is "Know your source". From the looks of your pic this "spread" was on top of a street vendors' table. Two no-nos here.

1. You don't know this vendor or where he gets his cigars
2. Do not buy cigars not properly stored in a humidor (glass top cases generally don't qualify). Real or not, cigars kept out in the open and allowed to dry out will lose much of their flavor.
