Hey everyone, the FDA is apparently rethinking their regulatory proposals with respect to the cigar industry. They are officially taking public comments to revisit what has been proposed. Below is the link to voice your concerns and to make comments or recommendations.

I really hope that if we get a large majority of the brothers here to voice their concerns over what has been proposed, we will be able to sway them at least a little bit. And hopefully diminish, curtail, and/or reign in the overall damage they will end up doing to the industry and our passion. Please take the time to put in your two cents. It can't hurt...
Thanks brothers.

To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Peter Villavecchia. I am writing on behalf of the cigar industry, which is currently under significant threat and in the process of undergoing new regulations by the FDA, with severe and deleterious effects. The economic burden posed by these proposed regulations would significantly hinder the ability of larger companies to compete in the US marketplace, in addition to utterly bankrupting smaller US-based companies that are unable to procure the necessary funds to adhere to the proposed regulations while sustaining their financial viability and solvency within the market. This will lead to a significant loss of US-based jobs and diminish the economic stability of those individuals and families that rely on this industry for their livelihoods. I know of multiple, smaller US-based companies that have already voiced their concerns regarding these regulations and their inability to remain solvent and in business without the ability to release new cigar lines as the market fluctuates and to ensure their existing lines adhere to the proposed regulations and to endure the regulatory processes involved. I understand the viewpoint of the FDA in regulating the industry to avoid tobacco exposure to young children and adolescents; however, there is significant research that has documented that most children and adolescents try smoking cigarettes during their development, and not cigars. With the CDC documenting only 7% among high-school aged adolescents and 2.2% among middle-school aged adolescents who try cigars. There is also substantial data charting the significantly decreasing trend in the amount of children and adolescents that do try tobacco-based products, with the largest percentage of use trending toward electronic and tobacco cigarettes. I also understand that even 7% of adolescents is a large and unacceptable number, however, over regulating the cigar industry is not the answer for ameliorating these numbers. This can be mitigated by simply increasing the purchasing age for tobacco related products at the federal level, rather than state-by-state. Research has also documented the average age of individuals who try their first cigar, or begin smoking cigars, are in their early to mid thirties. As a result of this research, I believe the proposed regulations are overbearing and directed toward the wrong tobacco market and industry. I sincerely hope the FDA will reconsider the existing proposals to ensure the cigar industry is able to continue within the US marketplace without undue and burdensome regulations that will weaken the largest companies and bankrupt the smaller boutique companies. Thank you for your time and help in this matter, I truly appreciate the opportunity to voice my concerns for the industry and hope that the FDA is able to reach a reasonable conclusion in implementing commonsense regulations that will not pose such detrimental effects on the market as they are currently posited.

Sincerely,
Peter Villavecchia

I "borrowed" your text and sent it. I think it's important for as many as possible to express their concerns today.
Not a problem brother, that's why I posted it. I wanted to make it easier for everyone who doesn't necessarily have the time to write a full statement. Thank you for participating brother. Please tag anyone you know on here that you feel will participate.

Please do this guys, and spread the word.
The public comments on the last suppressor rules change helped change the final outcome somewhat...
Writing up a simpler more direct wording would be good as well. (respectful and logical of course)
Personally I think it's important that 98% of blends are just variations of combinations of the exact same ingredients, so this is beyond foolish.

Honeslty we a people who enjoy Premium Cigar have a personal intrest in this fight. It is like saying "my vote counts for nothing, I don't vote", you are correct. By not partisipating in the process, your U case voted was not counted.

I will send a letter to the FDA, my Member of the House of Representatives, and last my two Senators who who represent my Intrests in Washington D.C.

For those who can do this, this is also a great route to go. If you can send a letter to your representatives in addition to the FDA, we can at least hope to have a "little" more sway on the issue. Thanks to everyone who has already participated.
