Fencing

Decided to take on a fencing project this summer. Since my father-in-law runs a saw mill, I determined I could save some money by doing it myself.

The project consisted of our paddock that was sporting 25 years of age. All posts were pulled and replanted along with new fence boards.

The project took the best part of 4 weekends scattered throughout August and September.

Side 1 pulled and cleaning out holes.

Side 1 finished. Notice the 2 posts with braces. The moron that built the fence in 1980 planted 2 posts in concrete about 18" down so I had no choice but to do the same.

I'll also add, God bless the people that do that shit for a living! They have my utmost respect! I've never been so happy to see the end of a project in my life.

I hear ya David! About 10 or 12 years ago my wife and kids decided one day that they just had to have a German Sheppard pup from a litter a friend of ours dog had. I found this out after I got home from work and there was a new puppy running around inside the house. Our place had an old stockade perimeter fence (about 300') that was not in good condition and needed to come down in a bad way. Besides I was going to have a German Shepard as a house dog.

So over the course of about a month, weekends and after work, I took down the old fence. A lot of the concrete was busted up getting the old posts out, so I tilled up the fence line and got it smoothed back out. Then I proceeded to put up a new 6' stockade fence that was 500' long total with posts on 8' centers, all hand dug with a hand held auger. Something like 65 to 70 posts and about 1000 pickets.

I did all of this because a fencing crew was just going to be to damned expensive. The next time I won't care how expensive they will be, cause I sure as hell am not going to take on that project again!

Very nice job......I sure like the look of wood, but I have gradually changed all my fencing to pipe and panels as the horses tend to chew it up and the cattle bust it up by rubbing on it.
All the large acerage is t-posts and barbed wire.
