....figured it was time to retire the Sony Walkman...:innocent: The wife and I finally got iPods! Ended up getting the 60G models. 'Course we spend a good part of the day yesterday uploading all of our CDs and downloading music from the Music Store....

Have a question for any ELP fans out there.... anyone know were I can find a good version of Works Vol 1 to download? Haven't found any downloadable versions and my album won't reproduce that well, I don't think.....:shame:

I'll see what I can do with the download.

I've had my iPod for about a month and love it! Got about 28 gigs on it so far and I still have more to add

You know, I felt the same way until yesterday morning... been thinking of one for a while, but figured that I listened to NPR on the way to and from work and burned any Podcasts I wanted to listen to on CD...

Then we got playin' around with iTunes and I realized that I missed listening to music I really liked rather than finding the station that played the least suckiest music...

BINGO! Now I gots one...

I was so-so about iPods until I actually bought one and now I wouldn't be without it. Be sure that you get an adaptor so that you can play it through your car stereo...I dropped my XM radio subscription because with the iPod, I just wasn't listening to satellite anymore.

Glad to hear you're having fun with it!

That brings up an interesting question. We each got a cassette type of system to listen through our car stereos. Rather underwealmed to be honest. Sound quality is much lower than the iPod itself. Any suggestions. From speaking to other people and the reps from Best Buy, the FM transmitters aren't as good as the cassette type. Is there a good brand of cassette connection or an after market USB connection that doesn't cost $150 to install?

My g/f has the FM transmitter and it sucks. So I'm glad I'm not that only one who thinks so.

Cliff is right, I hard wired mine into the car.

I did it myself but if you have it done at a shop it might bust your budget. I am guessing that you have a stock headunit. I think you drive a 4runner? Let me know and I'll dig up the research for you.

caudio51 comes from car audio 51.

My Explorer doesn't have a cassette, so I had to get the FM receiver. I use the Transponder FM from DLO and it works just fine. Now, the first open channel I tried wasn't good sound and so I had to locate and try a couple more before settling on one.

The main thing I notice is that you have to turn the volume up to get "normal" sound, but that's okay. It's not like wearing a nice pair of headphones at home, but it's fine for the highway.

Tom. You're right. I have an '02 4Runner with a factory stereo. And my wife has an '01 Passat with a factory stereo and CD Changer. Changer is of no concern since the iPod will plug into that port (I'm assuming).

Any of the links I've posted look like good choices? Let me know how you wired and what you used. Depending on how difficult the VW ends up being as far as trim and access through the panels, I can install it myself in both.

I've been checking out the Cruchfield site and think I've found a pretty good instalation kit for both vehicles.

IMO, Crutchfield = high priced. Some things you can't find for cheaper elsewhere, but most you can.

I think you can go into the cd changer port. The trim panels on newer cars can be harder to get off. If you want to do it I reccomend getting the Haynes Repair manual which will show you how to do it.

Thanks for the tip Tom. The CD changer port seems logical. I'll probably try to pull my panel out first to see how hard it is......

Yea, it might be very simple or more involved. Ya never know until you dig into it.
