If you guys are using the new version and miss the ability to hit ALT S to submit your replies in a forum, I have the fix for that from the Mozilla forums...

1. Enter about:config into your address bar and hit Enter/Go
2. Filter for contentAccess
3. Double-click on the remaining list entry and enter 4 (instead of the default 5).

They are not going to take it back to the old way, so this is the fix...

just in case it pissed ya'll off as much as it did me!

I have never used that keyboard shortcut myself, so I didn't really miss it.

Go figure.

But there are numerous things that bothered me about the new version, I'll come up with a new list and post it in a bit.

When or if you upgrade to Firefox 2.0, it is a good idea to back up your profile. This will ensure that if the upgrade gets a bit FUBAR, you will not lose your bookmarks and /or extensions:

To back up your profile, follow these instructions......

To back up your bookmarks and extensions before you upgrade to Ff2.0.

Close all windows running Firefox.

Goto my computer. Click Local disk (C:)

Click on Documents and Settings.
If you have a user account set up, double click on that user name, if not click on default user.

Click on the "View" button, and then click on "list".
At the top of the window on the tool bar, click the Tools button.
Select options Folder options.
Click on the "View" tab.

There will be a setting called Hidden files and folders, with two circles underneath it.
Click on the "Show hidden files and folders" circle.
Click on "Apply" at the bottom of the window.

This will bring up hidden folders, and you will see a new one called
"Application Data", (usually the second file listed).

Double click on that folder and then scroll down till you reach the Mozilla folder.

Double click Mozilla. Double click Firefox. Single click the "Profiles" folder.

Press the Ctrl+C key, to copy the file.

Minimize the window and then double click on "My Computer". Click on the (C:) drive.

Create a file called "Firefox Profile Backup"
Open that file and then press Ctrl+v.
This will copy your profile page to a separate file on your hard drive, so in the event of an upgrade problem, you will not lose your bookmarks and extensions.

If something goes wrong with the upgrade, simply copy and paste the new file into the application data file for the new Firefox.

If for some reason you need to uninstall the new Firefox and revert to the 1.5.0.7 version, you can reinstall it, and then use the file to restore all your settings.

Firefox 2.0 also changed one of the "privacy" options under the Tools menu.

It used to be you could set the cookie policy to block cookies from third party websites. This option seems to have been disabled in the new Firefox.

This means that when you visit a website it may install a cookie for that page, but some sites can install tracking cookies from websites that are linked to that page. These are called third party cookies.

In order to block third party cookies, while you read this page, open a new tab. In the address bar type "about:config" in the URL bar.

A bunch of scary looking options will come up on the new tab. It will look intimidating at first.
Don't be afraid, if you need to....get a beer.

Scroll down the alphabetical list until you come to the line called

network.cookie.cookieBehavior.

Left click on that line, and it will turn blue and a menu will pop up.

Move your mouse down till you reach the option that says "Modify".

Left click, and a menu will pop up with the number 0 highlighted.

Change that number to 1, and press OK

Firefox will now accept cookies from the page you are looking at, but will not
accept any tracking cookies from other pages that are linked on that web page.

If you don't like the new tab close buttons on the tabs, you can set the browser to act like the last version of Firefox where there was only one little red x button on the right had side of the screen that would close the tabs.

The default setting in Firefox 2.0 is to have a little red x on each tab. That can be annoying. To set the tab close button to the way it used to be, open a new tab.

In the URL bar, type "about:config"

A lot of scary looking things will come up on screen. A second beer would be helpful.
Scroll down until you find the "browser.tabs.closeButtons" line.

Left click and then select "Modify" from the pop up menu.

Change the number to 3, and then close.

Restart the browser, and it will behave the way Firefox 1.5.0.7 did.

Firefox 2.0 made some changes to the tabs. If you open a lot of tabs, the tab bar will not shrink the tabs until you stop adding them, it will keep the tabs the same width and then add a scroll bar to the right of the screen. This is somewhat annoying. I liked the old way. :(

If you would rather that the tabs behaved the way they did in 1.5.0.7, open a new tab and type "about:config" in the URL bar.

Once again, all the scary options will come on screen.Depending on your tolerance for alcohol, you might consider a cup of coffee while you scroll down until you reach....

"browser.tabs.tabMinWidth"

Left click, and select "Modify" from the pop up window.

Change default number to "20".

The tabs will now shrink in size instead of moving off the screen to the right in the tab bar.

Can't find the reference on this one, I have had a few bottles of really good wine and am finding it hard to concentrate....

:D

I'm still loving FireFox here! And the spellchecker makes me look like a genius!
