With a young palate and smoking my first CC I can say I wasn't totally sold. I would love to say that the first CC's I smoked were heavenly bliss. They were very very good but I wondered were they worth the effort in obtaining them. I will say I was intrigued enough to buy my first box of very cheap CC. After a few nice samplers and the box I was hooked. So why wasn't I sold the first time around if CC are so good? Was my palate too young? Were the CC's too young? I think it was a combination of both. It took me some time to truely appreciate. So my question to you is...was your first CC enough to convince you?

PL PC with others from the newbie trade here earlier this year. Now look where I am. :sadpace:

Yes that one stick was enough for me to try more. The more I tried, the less I liked NC.

I was sold! After years of inconsistency smoking NC's, I purchased a box of Punch DC's. My first taste of Cuban soil, and it was heavenly bliss!:starrylov Still thinking it might be a fluke, a day or two later I lit up the second. It was every bit as good as the first. It was worth the effort to obtain that box, so much that I landed my next box within the month. I have never looked back, and what a delightful journey it's been.

Two more discoveries over the years have equally pleased me. The first being the exposure to the wide variety of flavors I've experienced over the years, and the second being, learning the virtues of letting them sit for an extended period of time, 3yrs. 5yrs. and now 8yrs., and the wonderful complexities that develope over a period of time.

Later, Bob

Well I had that Punch on the cruise that was VERY strong to me and then a Bolivar CJ that was gifted to me by a fellow Jackson smoker that about laid me on my ass. So I'd say they were pretty strong but I loved the taste. But at the same time I did not experience many n/c's. So it took me about 6 months or so to fully go to all cuban cigars.

A very fine brother over at CA, when I first started getting into cigars, sent me a sampler of MC#2, CoRo, and a R&J Churchill to try as I was going overseas and wanted to procure some.
If those didn't hook me, the box of MC#2's and box of CoRo's I got at the Amsterdam Duty Free, and then smoking them around the Dalmation Coast sure as hell did!!!!

My first was all I needed. It was a Mag 46 with about 11 months of age on it.

I stopped smoking NCs when I the to choose between the two immediately.

The first cc I bought was a cohiba sublime down on Grand Cayman last year...I was sold. In retrospect, I was gifted a bunch of cigars from a friend some of which were cc, but I was such a novice that I didn't even know it at the time.

Went for years between the mid to low end NCs, never wanting to break the bank with a **gasp** $10 cigar. Also did the occasional backwoods thing. I started with better NC's in the late 90s and could only wonder how I managed all the junk prior. My first CC (that wasn't dried to a crispy critter) was a young Sig I, and I can only say I liked it. It was, um, kinda grassy. Then, I did a split on some Partagas Shorts and was history after that.

Nope, but my first CCs were smoked from dubious sources overseas. Who knows if they were real or not? I had been experimenting with NCs for some time before I smoked my first "know it's real" CC that blew my socks off, and I think it was the fact that I was learning to concentrate on all the different flavors you encounter when smoking a good cigar that set me up to really be wowed by that CC.

My first was a Cohiba Esplendido that was obviously young. I was really wondering what all the hype was about. Second was a 5 year old H. Upman Sir Winston. I was gone. I still like NC's but smoke fewer and fewer.

Um... it took me 2... I think you have a mindset going in that it should be amazing.. and if you smoke something that is not in its prime then it might take a few more for you to be convienced....

My first was a Cohiba Seleccion Reserva (coronas especiales I think) and I was sold. It was amazingly different from the NC's I'd been smoking and I couldn't wait to try more. I had it with a cup of Cuban Turquino coffee which was also damn good. I need to find more of that too!
