Smoked my first CC yesterday, Monte #4. Paired it with Tullamore Dew whisky, and was really impressed with it. Sharp bite to begin with and a smooth finish. Shared the whisky with some friends for a birthday celebration.
Really enjoyed the cigar it but the draw was very tight. I Cut it a second time and it opened up a little bit. Smoked it until it got too hot for me.
I might try and pick up a few more Monte #4s and see if that one just had bad construction and was rolled too tight.

Anyone else had draw issues with Monte #4?20150320_195107.jpg 20150320_211653.jpg

I keep it just around 67. I have a 65 Boveda in there but it's work to keep below 70.

That's what I hear. Actually that LFD was the first cigar I have had plugged in a long time. Regardless, CC or NC it is always disappointing.

I thought it was here (might have been another forum) that someone gathered a bunch of data from a bunch of guys over a few months, and neither CCs not NCs had a very high rate of being plugged. It's common to hear that CCs are often plugged, but it didn't end up being the case.

I do know that a draw tool fixes almost any issue I've ever had!

That would be Smokey Joes carpet. Are you close to Joes?

Never heard of a draw tool but that sounds quite interesting. I just look it up. Thompson cigar sells one for $15. http://www.thompsoncigar.com/product/THE-DRAWPOKER/66205.uts?form_state=sourceCodeFlyoverForm&sourceCode=4325
any other recommendations.
Yeah, avoid Thompsons! There a couple folks out there who make draw tools. I got mine from Hekthor (HWeibe, you can find him at various forums and on Instagram), but I think Forrest (Wineadors/GolfNut) makes them too. Can't remember off hand, hopefully somebody else will chime in here.

and the only monte #4 I've had was very tight. hit or miss I guess
CCs also tend to be much tighter when you have a small ring gauge stored at a higher humidity. Next one you get, try keeping it at 60-62%, and I'm guessing it'll treat you better.

Scientific study aside, in my years of smoking, I've had more ccs plugged than ncs and that with 80 percent or more nc smoking.

Nice tool Ara!

I use a screwdriver I got in a set, that was like a pict. No head, pointy as hell. But, that's when I have a bad draw. Its not super often.

Ara is right, it seems to appears more on CCs.

Im about 20 minutes north of Joes! Thats a good eye! How close are you to the area?
After my post, there's 4 people in this thread that frequent Smokey Joe's. :)

And to answer your question, I've had a couple tighter Monte #4's but nothing where I couldn't smoke them. Usually the #4's are a great cigar and a staple in many people's inventory, including me. Do you have a full box, or just came across a single? If you have a box, consider dry boxing a cigar a day or two before smoking it next. Give them the old feel test too... slightly squeeze it all the way up/down the cigar to see if you feel any knots.

Smokey Joes is such an awesome place to go. Have you seen the new place being built called Stogies? I'm kind of nervous it will take a lot of business from Joes (if they arent owned by the same company) but I'm excited Joes will be less crowded.
