Cain Habano – Pre Release
Posted on August 1st, 2009 by Walt

Final Thoughts:
When it was all said and done, I like to think I passed the Cain challenge. What I mean by that is that it was my first cigar of the day and was smoked before lunch. This is a common practice for me with much milder cigars but in this case the Oliva rep knew that I would be strolling into the cigar shop at 11:00 AM for my weekly visit.

While this cigar never made me sick to the stomach, the niccotine content gave me the shakes and made me feel a little wobbly. Smoking this cigar so early in the day is probably very foolish, but in my case it came down to one of those “man up and smoke the cigar” type moments. Because I managed to not fall down or vomit, I’ll consider myself as having passed the Cain challenge from here on out.

If smoked under the same circumstances, I think this cigar could easily have a few single word descriptions; potent, strong, full, and maybe even wicked. If you were to smoke this later on in the evening, I think it would be tolerable in regards to strength and body. Its surprisingly smooth for all the ligero that it is loaded with and I could definately see myself smoking these in the evening among cigars like the El Cobre, Top Shelf Signature Select Red Label, and La Flor Dominicana Cheroots.

Don't know about the price point, here's what I do know....

-Cain will be released in 2 wrappers, a Habano and a Maduro and most likely 3 or 4 sizes: Robusto, Toro, Torpedo, and Dbl Toro.

-Cain is blended with a ligero filler consisting of ligero from Esteli, Condega, and the Jalapa Valley in Nicaragua.

-All ligero's are triple fermented for smoothness and superb flavor.

To be released at the end of August, after the show in New Orleans.

I'm looking forward to this one too, I want to see how it compare's with Pete's T110!

What a leathery wrapper! Don't you want to age something like this a LONG time, like 6mos., a year, 2-3yrs?
Nice photo spread. Very tempting color and texture.

Thanks for the warning: Don't smoke 'em in the Morning.

I usually trust Oliva to make a fine cigar. I wonder if the Cain cigar band will have any mention of Oliva on it.

Sam is the man that developed the Nub and it's on there so I would suspect it will be on both of the Cain bands.

"While Cain does feature three different types of Ligero tobacco, it isn’t 100% ligero because, according to Sam, a small amount of other tobacco is necessary to create a proper burn."

Smoked the Cain Maduro last night and was incredibly impressed. It might be my favorite cigar from the show so far. It is not nearly as powerful as a Cheroot or T110. However, it still packed a punch and the flavor was awesome. Nice and complex, burned great, fantastic construction unlike any other Oliva or Nub for sure. This one is definitely a winner, I will have to smoke the Habano tomorrow, but I am sure it will be fantastic as well. Also, no mention of Oliva on the band, I am pretty sure this will be marketed on its own.
