OK, so i'm in the market for my first gun. Don't get me wrong, i've shot a plenty, but they've all been my brothers guns, except for the .500 magnum we rented at the range over the weekend. $3 a shot!!!

Anyhow, i'm looking for home defense purposes.

Should i get handgun or a shotgun.

Looking at an H&K .40 or .45 compact

OR

Remington 870 express riot gun.

THoughts.

Well, when the zombies rise up, you'll want a hand gun.
Shotgun shells take up too much space, and you want the head shot, not the spray from a shotgun.

You should bookmark this page so in 10 years when you have a gun safe, 2 gun cabinets, a closet full of guns, and a truck mounted 50 cal, you'll have a laugh.

only problem with the shotgun is it's no good in close quarters. although, you could always use it as a bat!!

I'd say the shotgun.

It's easy to use, it's less likely to go through walls, they are cheap, amo is cheap, etc.

Besides - nothing sends a signal to an intruder like the loading of a 12 gauge.

CC - go with a .45.

Either way - better to have & not need than need & not have.

I always think it is funny when people say a shotgun wont go through walls. What ammo are you gonna rack in your shotgun? most likely some type of buck shot... It will go through most any wall. I would suggest a pistol. You can keep it close and it holds a lot of rounds.Shotguns, no matter how small are big. Get a pistol.

I just got a custom made automatic shotgun.. comes with a clip that holds ten shells and doesn't need to be pumped repeatedly. You may want to look into one of those.

ok, a few questions.

What's a CC gun? Cuban contraband gun? Cuban Cigar Gun?

Oh, conceal/carry perhaps?!

If i go with a pistol, i'm certainly gonna be CCing.

Also, I'm goin to a gunshow next week and will make a purchase if i spot a good deal on a reliable gun. Got a couple very knowledgeable buddies going with me, not to worry.

Any thoughts or concerns on gunshow purchases?

CC = Conceal Carry

Gale, since you will be conceal carrying, I would go with a G23 if you want to carry a pistol in the waistband. I love my Glock 23. It holds 13 rounds of .40 S&W and a round in the chamber.

More often than not, I carry a S&W J-frame 442 .38spl +p revolver in my pants pocket. It is so light that you forget that it is there.

Question #2 - Gun show purchases are fine. If you are buying new, you have nothing to worry about. If you are buying used, make sure one of your bud's looks it over that has more experience to see if there has been any excessive wear/tear on it.
