I'm working on the Mt. Airy home this morning, when I get a phone call from the camp ground that water was pouring out of my RV. Thankfully, someone saw it and turned the water line off. I grab my Shopvac and head to the campground expecting the worse. I unplug the power lines, and open the door, expecting the whole thing to be flooded. About a 1/4" of water under the kitchen sink, and a 3' x 8' area of carpet soaked. Everything else was bone dry. Upon investigation, I discover that the plastic screw cap that holds the hot water heater bypass valve had split in half, allowing the valve guts to pop out, shooting a 1/2" stream of pressurized water under the sink. I still don't know how the whole thing didn't flood. Sucked up as much water as I could with the Shopvac, and then turned on space heaters and fans to dry the rest.

I call the local camping store, and to my surprise, they don't have a parts department. The closest Camping World is an hour away in Statesville, and a quick parts search shows bypass values, but nothing close to mine. I start thinking that I'll have to go to Lowes, and try to rig something together using pipe clamps and such. Then I remember the Plumber's Epoxy I keep in the RV. The stuff is waterproof and turns rock hard in an hour. I fit the two pieces of the screw cap together and cover it with mixed epoxy. An hour latter, everything is back together and not a single drip. And folks say Rednecks can't come from Jersey, lol.

I guess it could have been far worse.

Sorry to hear of the valve break and flooding of your camper. Glad you were able to be so close by and get the water out and to fix it yourself. AS you know water is the worst thing for these units but you get an A over this ordeal.
