Smoked one yesterday:

I have to admit, this thing is very short and squat. Funny looking, but interesting.

Cut was poor. Don't know if it was me or the cigar, but the head was not a clean cut, leaving a raised portion of tobacco through the middle.

Initial 5-10 draws were very difficult and then the cigar opened up. I was actually puffing when it did- first time I've had that happen. It was pretty remarkable. Some tightness to the draw throughout, but not unpleasant after that initial challenge.

Flavors were very pleasant. Typical maduro leather, some spice. Certainly not overwhelming or nearly as heavy a smoke as I expected. I made some notes of licorice type sweetness, maybe raisin or some dried fruit. The flavors kept on until about 1/2 way down the cigar.

The cigar, a little before 1/2 way burned got hot. I tried to puff more gradually (I'm generally a relatively slow smoker), but that only served to cause the cigar to begin to go out. The flavors of the last half became more acidic and more bitter. The flavor wasn't unpleasant (like dark chocolate), but for the heat. The cigar was also quite awkward to hold on to, although I did manage to nub it (in a fashion).

In all, I would give this bad boy an 83-85. It was too difficult to hold on to and just too hot. The size is def. not for me, and I am looking forward to trying some of the other vitolas in the line. Without question, I would recommend smoking it at least once and would recommend the Liga Privada line to any medium to heavy profile cigar smoker.

Thanks for the review. I haven't tried any of the Liga Privada yet, but want to. I like the nuB line....the thick RG fits my big paws pretty well. It would be interesting to try a similar size smoke from another line.

Nice review. My experience was pretty much the same. I'd heard such good things about this one, I might have been expecting too much. I think it's a very good cigar, but for the price I'd rather smoke something else. Also, I'm not a cigar nubber, and this one had to be nubbed rather quickly due to its small size. I will say that I was surprised it didn't get too hot and bitter at the end (it did get very hot, but not as hot as I would have expected).

nice review.......burned one and found the burn uneven in some spots but very good flavor profile. It didn't get hot on me.

Completely agree with the review and I had the very same issues.....

I wonder if any resting time will help to develop the profile.....time will tell...

It is a difficult bastage to nub.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I had one that didn't get too hot but a buddy of mine smoking at the same time from the same box did have issues. I am hoping some time will help these out. In the end it was a different but enjoyable experience for me but had many of the same issues you did with it.

The one I smoked was great, I had zero burn issues etc. I thought the flavors were a lot better than the reg. #9. My only complaint about this smoke was the RG, it was a little awkward compared to my normal cigars.

Nice review! I notice a lot of perfecto's have some draw issues to start off. I had the same thing with a tight draw almost thought about clipping more off.

Never had a Flying Pig (would like to though), but I’ve had 4 LP#9s. 2 have been amazing--sweet, kinda spicy, and delicious--1 had a very tight draw and was low on flavor, the other had a fine draw and some of the spice but NONE of the sweetness that I loved so much in the other 2 that I had.

Do you think these need a bit of age for that "sweet" component to come out?

I attribute the tight draw to start to the small opening at the foot. once you get in burned down a bit there is a larger opening to pull air through, thus the draw opens up.
