Over the years, I've attempted to smoke a dozen or so Fonseca cigars. Hated every one of them. Even threw the 3 remaining from a 5 pack in the trash. Yet the Quesadas I've smoked, I've thoroughly enjoyed. Lately I've grabbed a few Quesada factory selects off of CA, and found them to be a solid, everyday cheapie. So, when I saw a Quesada "Premium 4 pack" on CA, I decided to give one a try. It consisted of a Fonseca Cubano, Fonseca Vintage, Quesada Espana, and Quesada 40th. I tried the Fonsecas first. They both had a flavor I found "offensive" and ended up tossing them. The Quesadas I thoroughly enjoyed. Since I find the $1 Quesada factory selects smokable, it can't just be because the Fonsecas are a less expensive line then the Quesadas.

So what am I missing here? Aren't both lines blended by Manuel Quesada? I mean I've smoked just about every cigar blended by Pepin, and though I enjoy some blends more than others, there is nothing that he blends that I hate. Same with Pete Johnson (yes, I know Pepin blends most of his stuff), John Huber, and scores of other blenders/brands. With that said, there are some blenders/brands who I don't enjoy at all. I won't smoke anything they put out.

For me at least, Manuel Quesada seems to be the odd man out. One of his brands I despise, while the other I really, really enjoy.

Anyone else feel this same way about Quesada? Any other blenders, where you enjoy one of their brands/lines, while out right hating another?

I love Quesada cigars...I love the Espanas...Heisenberg...Casa Magna but when it comes to the Fonseca lineage I can take em or leave em. This is a production of cigars that have their own blending which is not the same as a true line Quesada. I don't believe that the tobacco being put into the Fonseca line is as good as the Quesada because I can taste the difference. It's a version of Quesada "lite" and Fonseca tends to be a milder version. Just because Manuel puts his name on the stick doesn't mean that it's the same cigar over the entire line....think Rocky Patel...think Fuente...think CAO and so on. As far as having the Quesada brand name hooked with Fonseca is a good sales approach....it allows the manufacturer to sell off "less than" tobacco to the hobbyist without taking a hit monetarily because the brand name carries the credibility for that cigar line...every business does this and waste in any business environment is recycled within the business to make money by upgrading the mix of tobacco with others or just selling it as a "second" and depending on the tastes of the consumers...if it sells well enough to make them money the brand stays.

What's the issue? Some of their cigars you like and some you don't. Smoke the ones you like. This isn't really paradoxical.
