Pro Football starts Sept.9th. If anyone is interested I would advise that we choose someone who has been on this ite for some time to act as commissioner. Thus the Football pool I'm suggesting is :
1. Every one who wants in has to ante up four Cigars of some value, meaning a decent stick not a Garcia Vega, etc. Nor overboard with an Opus X.

2. All Cigars must be received by 09/01 thus fair warning to gather your smokes and decide.

3. Upon receiving Cigars and the name of your team, all Cigars from who they came from will be listed.

4. Depending upon the # of players we must vote on who gets to hold all of these Cigars until Super Bowl is over, or a winner is deciced before.

5. Now for the Challange, every player must select there selection of the winning team against the point spread by Friday at 11:59 p.m. EST. or forfeit that week and go "0" for # of games. Players must select one team from every game being played on Sunday and Monday night, any ties or "Pushes" with the pt. Spread will have no bearing, like the game never existed. All pointspreds will come from 5 Dimes Casino.
In case of a Thursday game, that selection alone must be placed by Wed. no later then 11:59 p.m. EST. Then other selections again no later then Friday 11;59 p.m. EST

6. Those are the guidlines I propose, any advice or suggestions, questions I will gladly answer.

7. Now that all the formalities are somewhat set, it's a lot of fun and if there are ten teams x 4 cigars The winner takes home a nice assorment of Forty Cigars. Twenty teams X 4 Cigars winner would take home Eighty Cigars, and so on.

8. Now we must vote on a commissioner to hold all of these cigars in a safe secure humidor.

9. As for dealing with all the entries and verifying wagers and pointspread and publishing it for all members to see who picked which team before kickoff is quite the job, If anyone has the same passion for this please let me know. If not and it's okay with all players I will handle all of these entries.
10. Again those are the formalitees, I've played by and it's a lot of fun and a little something else to look forward to on The Lord's Day.

Good luck to all I hope it all comes together.
Thank you,
David j. Oleyar

I like it. 4 sticks, good quality but not super-premium, is an easy buy in for us guys who only halfway follow football.

Might want to simplify the rules a bit, but I'll leave suggestions on what to change up to people who know more about this stuff.

Everything is negotiable, I just went into way too much detail I think. Just ante up make your picks and win. I've been in this same format of football on a previous site, look back at my 1st. posts, that was my question.
When I played yrs. ago it was a min. of 3 $5.00 - $7.00 sticks and one $10.00 to $20.00 stick, no complaints it's all for fun, and it's a long season.
Yes that is the correct link, disregard my info. What we need is a member to hold all of these in Excellent cond. Spread the word, we'll talk tomorrow
The site for the Pointspread is under docsports.com Then there will be 5 different bookmakers and 5 Dimes is by far the best.

Thank you for your input,
David

David,

If I could give you some great advice, I would let the other pools form and join one of those. I know you are very new to the forum, but I suspect many won't join yiur contest. I woukd also check the rules from past football pools and tweak them if You still want to form up your own contest. I know in those pools there are required minimums to be a player.

Obviously there would be a minimum, the four cigars by said date, if not received then they don't play. As for being new to this forum, that's why I suggest a commisioner to hold the cigars, one who's trusted.
Any advice is appreciated, if it flies fine if not so be it.

I know typically and in the past, folks that start the football pools usually make sure that folks have at least 3 months membership on the board, established trader rare with no negatives and at least 100 posts. Those are the minimums I was referring to. I know Cigar Cowboy and one other already do a football pool each year.

Love the fact you are jumping in and getting involved. Keep it up brother. This place is a wonderful learning avenue and the brothers are some of the best in the world, check out the newbie trade thread to help you build up some trader ratings.

Thank you,
I'm almost 100% sure this is the site I was on yrs. Ago it had a different name.
That's where this Football pool came from, the man who ran it was ? Charlie, Chuck, anyway we became best buddies. There was a Dr. from N.Y. called Docberry, I think.
As far as my suggestion of this pool, again as long as the player puts up his cigars by said date I don't forsee a problem.
All antes are non - refundable, thus if someone leaves etc. The cigars stay.
On to a ? I have since joining I get J.R.s newsletter, and today they are selling a 5 pk. of Gurkin? Maduros 7x 54 for $14.99.
Reg. price $60.00? I've never had one, n never purchased from this site. I go to my local cigar shoo or order from Neptune.
Thus are they any good as cigars, n the site?
Lastly I think you should be commissioner for the league, you've been here a long time, and you would have the ruling word on any issues, which I cannot fodder as it ran so smoothly when I was in it.
Thank you again for your advice, I'm just trying to get things going asap, then we can all enjoy.
Sorry for the rant, lol.

After using Yahoo Sport to run pools, I'd never do it another way.... so easy.
Please do tell? It's not Fantasy football, Yahoo offers to send out pointspreds, enter every members selection. Then generate everyones selections with the pointspread before gme time? Then do the math of wins and losses for each player?

Ahh okay, you haven't been a member long enough yet. I run a confidence pool. From the posting…

What is a confidence pool you ask?
    • Picks are made "straight up", not using a point spread system.
    • Each pool member picks every NFL game for the week.
    • In addition to picking the winning team, members must rank how confident they are that the team they picked will win. The more points assigned to a pick, the more confident they are that team will win.
    • For each correct pick, they receive the number of points they assigned to that pick.
    • Ties are worth 0 points
    • At the end of the season the player(s) with the most points win.

With all seriousness, why? I offer a very easy inexpensive contest. I said a commissioner is needed to hold the cigars, n work with me as in nada. I'll gladly figure the wins n loses weekly, as will most who play as they want to know where they are in the standings.
