It has been in a bunch of Architectural mags I get. Pretty cool building but I think this was an obvious attempt for someone to make a name for themselves, at the expense of the tax payer again....

This quote from the article says it all and shows just where folks priorities really are. Wonder who's brother owns the contractor firm responsible for building it?

"The pricey schools have come during a sensitive period for the nation's second-largest school system: Nearly 3,000 teachers have been laid off over the past two years, the academic year and programs have been slashed. The district also faces a $640 million shortfall and some schools persistently rank among the nation's lowest performing."

since we're on the subject, here is more to add to the pile.

This is just Asinine. Here are the changes, in our kid’s school schedules. First off there are 9 furlough days, the kid’s will have off this year. These are days we are not paying the teachers, or other school employees so we can save money. 2nd the entire first week of school is furlough days. So they list the first day of school as the 6th of September, but we don’t have to drop the kids off until 13th. 3rd, school does not start until 9:30 am. WTF is that all about? The district saves 1 hour of pay for all the hourly employees, but requires they get the same ammount of work done. Now anyone who has to drop off their kids and get to work, can’t start a job until 10 am. So we’re under educating our kids, under paying and overworking our teachers, and placing the parents of school aged kids in predicaments where earning to get by is difficult, or they have to pay a babysitter in the AM to drop off the kids.

Einstein was right... human stupidity is INFINITE. Spending 578 million on a public building while we have so many budget problems, furlows, layoffs is unfathomable.

It's no wonder our state has gone to sh**.

And people want to lengthen the school year. If we use furlough days, we could!! Make the school year 20 days longer (shh . . . don't tell anyone but we are using 30 furlough days)
