The idea sprung when Dave mentioned a sensor that goes off whenever somebody opens up yer humi. I'll be writing two different ways to do so. One is, in case yer humi is near yer computer, how to get a motion activated webcam recording camera; the second is a simple wireless motion detector I'll provide the link to. Anyways, here it goes:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Security Camera:

Requirements:

  1. A PC running Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP
  2. A webcam
  3. Dorgem - a free webcam utility. (Dorgem has been discontinued, but the link, download, and software still works. Just no more updates nor support questions)

How to:

  1. Install webcam (I figure ye've done so already, so, skip this)
  2. Download and install Dorgem
  3. Launch Dorgem, selecting yer camera in it
  4. Click the Preview button to see what yer camera captures. Point it towards humi.
  5. Click the Source button to adjust image (ie. brightness and contrast) and click OK
  6. Click the Options button
  7. Check the box that says: "Use motion detection" (Some webcams disconnect from Dorgem; make tests, and if yers if one of those, check the box that reconnects selecting an interval ye consider appropiate)
  8. Click the Ok button to return to the main window
  9. Click the Store Settings button
  10. Choose File and click Ok
  11. Give it a Name, check the Enable box and select an interval (1-2 seconds should do)
  12. Click the button next to Filename [...] to select where to save the images. Somewhere in the file name, enter the characters %g - which will give your file name a time-stamp. If you use %G in the file name, it will also add the current year (ie. Humidor%G%g)
  13. Click Save
  14. Click Ok
  15. Click Close to return to main window
  16. Wave yer hand or something in front of the camera for a while, check the folder where it should be saving, and, if it ain't working, start again at step No.3

Hope ye like it (though it's mostly just for the fun of it.).
