Is Fords answer to saving some money by laying off people.......wouldnt it be better to just have a nice assortment of cars that appeal to every age group.....

Toyota and Nissian have a full range of cars from sub-compact gas mizers to full size pickups and suvs, their vehicles appeal to every age group.....

Look at the lineup Ford & Chevy have.......

Chrysler cant keep up production with their Caliper and Minivans.......

They aren't laying them off just yet. Ford plans to offer buyouts to all 75,000 of its North American factory workers in hopes of cutting its payroll costs by nearly a third. They're offering a variety of buyout packages, I think 8 total, to appeal to most of the workers. It ranges anywhere from $35k to $140k. And that is according to the WSJ.

They're just not keeping up with cars these days. My Dad has a Ford Sport Trac which I love but a lot of the other cars don't do shit for me style wise.

Well, at least their layoff packages will appeal to every age group ...

I think that both GM and Ford have had short-sighted planning for a quite awhile. They concentrated on SUVs and pickup trucks when they should have been developing better small cars like the rest of the world. Sure they enjoyed big profits during the 90's and early 2000's ... but now they are struggling to survive.
