Cigar shop in a nearby mall went out of business and another shop there grabbed up some of the stock. Found these on his shelf.
Three Troyo Universales left in the box. Bought em all.
Box code was CBOCSU (El Rey del Mundo Factory, July 98).
He also had half a box or so of Los Statos de Luxe Selectos so I grabbed one of them as well. If it's any good, I'll go back and pick up the rest.
All four sticks, while machine made, came in deep yellow cello, telling me they've been resting awhile.
They do, however, seem a little dry and slightly hard. Not sure if I should try to rehumidify them a bit or smoke one as they are. Worried moisture may split em.

If I'm not mistaken, cigars harden as they age. I haven't had alot of well aged cigars, but the one's I've seen that are 7+ years have started to harden even though they've been kept in good condition.

Finally, a review.
The weather finally settled down enough for me to fire of one these up.
I first selected one of the Troyas, but it seemed a little dry and I felt a hard spot in the middle, so I switched to the Los Statos de Luxe Selectos.
Based on the colour of the cello and where it came from, I estimated this to be rolled around the same time as the Troyas, in 1998. If there are any left when I go back this week, I'll check the box code to confirm.
The Selectos was handmade until about 1980 and discontinued in 2002. The brand was discontinued in 2005/06.
This turned out to be a very delightful smoke. Classic Cuban flavour, though not a lot of changes, which I figure may be due to it being an aged stick. I expected some harshness, but this didn't encounter any until the very end of the smoke. Nice bit of wood (cedar) on the palatte throughout. Certainly worth the $7 I paid.
