I used H&R Block's tax software last year...it's like 15 bucks to use it online for Federal and State returns. I belive the Fed is free, the State is 15 bucks. It was horrible...and confusing. I had to print everything out and send it in, along with the e-file. I may as well not even have e-filed. I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the link Jim!

Jason, that's really strange because Taxcut is H&R affiliated at the least. Are you talking about soemthing they had online or Taxcut? I can't imagine why you would have needed to send anything with the efile, that makes no sense.

Yeah, Jason...positive. I had to print everything out, which sucked because I don't have a printer. I had to save it and then go to a local library and print it all out. They even had a list of the addresses I had to send to depending on which kind of return I was sending in. It was really weird. I had to mail my Federal and my State. It was very confusing and time confusing....my co-worker recommended express1040.com..that's what I'll be using this year. Makes no sense to e-file and mail in if you ask me. I know I sound like I'm not making sense, but I'm positive I had to mail it in. I even had to get it sent registered (which H&R recommended) to make sure it got received, which costs extra. It was absolutely redundant.

Jason, what software are we talking? Because I've been using Taxcut for three years now, and while yes, they have you print it out at one point, that's for your records, not to mail. The only thing I can say is that every version of Taxcut I've used has come from a disk. Bought it once and they send me a CD every year now. I just pay for it once I load it up. Costs $39 for Premium+State which is really a waste for me as I don't have state income taxes, but oh well. ANyway, strange.

I didn't buy mine...mine was a free download from hrblock.com. I used the TaxCut basic for like 9.95. I think it ended up being like $15.00 after I was all done plus the fees for registering my mail. It was stupid and I'd never use it again. I asked my co-worker if there is anything to mail in with that site I mentioned and they said none. I would not recommend hrblock.com at all.

I just checked again, it says an additional $24.95 for State preperation. So I guess that's in the range of $35.00. That other site I mentioned is like 10 bucks!

Basic Taxcut is 9.95. They have three or four levels. And you are still confusing me, I'm sorry. You DID use Taxcut or you DIDN'T use Taxcut when you had to mail?

Basic Taxcut is $9.95 for Federal. If you want to do State too it's an additional $24.95. I live in a state (Michigan) where I also have to file a State return.

I filed that exact same program (TaxCut Basic) and they still made me print it out (even though it was supposedly an e-file) along with a print out of detailed instructions on how to mail it in with a long list of addresses depending on the type of file.

Hopefully that clears it up.

MichiganM...your descriptions sound exactly like Turbo Tax...by Quicken...dollar amounts and all :dunno:
Maybe they use the same software and what not, I'm not sure. I just know I used H&R Block.com for mine. I have the paperwork at home. I refreshed myself with all this because I need last years information to file on the site I listed earlier.
