So it goes like this...I'm sitting in my garage chillin in front of an offset breeze from a fan (because the air is a stagnet and humid 94) and sippin on my diet coke an figure this ia a good time to fire up a Tat SW. Everything is going good and I'm totaly relaxed and enjoying the smoke. The burn gets about an inch away from the band so I decide to take it off. When I do (and yes I'm carfull) it also tears away some of the wrapper on the cigar. Now I've had this happen before but this one set me off because as I prceeded to smoke the cigar the wrapper got worse and started to crack. I gave up and tossed it in the ashtray bumbed! What can be done to avoid this guys?

Not much. I usually save the piece of the cap that I cut off and use it as a patch if this happens to me. Just saliva it up and slap it over the tear. Most times it works. There's always the stick it in a pipe option! :stretchgr

I had it happen to me the other day on a stick as well. I just smoked through it, but it did annoy me.
Happen a couple times, but I just smoked through it especially if it was one of my favorites!...........I find it kinda hard to just toss it, even if it annoyed the hell out of me, it now becomes a challenge and I just love a challenge!

wait until the burn is right before the band... it can be right on it and you still won't burn your fingers just hold the band on the other side of the burn. The heat from the burn will melt the adhesive and the band will come off much cleaner.

I don't do this everytime... just when I know that band is stuck on pretty good. you can just tell sometimes. hope that helps.

I always remove my band before lighting. I don't know why but its something I have to do or I'm annoyed the whole time I smoke.
I had the cigar band problem a few times myself. Removing the band before I light seems to have cured the problem. I think heat and the moistness from smoking always makes the last couple of inches swell up a bit.

i remove the band before lighting up, too. it doesn't annoy me, per se, to have it on there while i smoke... i just like to take it off before lighting for some reason. sometimes the wrapper tears and i fix it, usually it doesn't and all is good. then i glue the band into my little book and write some notes. :)

Sometimes it just can't be avoided - life's too short to get too annoyed at a cracked cigar (especially if it's still smoking okay).

I normally remove the band before I light except for Fuente. They glue their band to the cigar a lot which is aggravating.

I've had them tear many wrappers when trying to remove them so I normally leave bands on unless they're really loose.

I have noticed on really stuck bands that if I gently massage the band as I smoke I can sometimes work it loose without tearing the wrapper.
