Hey guys,

I am POSITIVE that I have asked this before but I'm looking to see if there is any new information or opinions out there. Basically it's like this....

I live in Wisconsin. So this time of year is brutal for smoking. Basically, I'd like to see if I could have a set up in the garage that I could use to smoke and not freeze my giblets off. Not only that, but I'd like to invest in a smoke eater/ author purifier as well so that the garage doesn't smell like an ashtray (it's the only way I would do this). Plus, something like that would allow me to keep the garage door closed thus keeping it warmer.

Long story short, my garage is maybe 20x20 with high roof so it's a decent space. Does anyone have any recommendations for an air purifier or smoke eater that would do the trick? Overkill is better than underkill so error on that side.

Thanks guys!

Paul

Thanks guys. Looking more for the air purifier or smoke eater stuff than the heaters, but I'll check it out!

What I did in my garage is make a small area and using Refectix as my insulated walls. You can buy it at Menards in a 48" width. It will keep the heat in and with a smaller space it dose not take long to heat. In my case I don't care if the smell is in the garage cause its not that nice to start with but I do have a 200mm computer fan on top to pull the smoke out. Along with the heat rising it dose a great job of keeping the air pretty nice.

Some guys use an electric blanket or two; not sure if that's going to cut it in WI though! I'm in Buffalo, so I've got a vent-free natural gas heater in my garage (3-car, uninsulated doors (n)). It keeps things at a tolerable 55-60 degrees. I won't B.S. you though...my gas bill two winters ago was $280 more than the year before with me smoking in there every day!

For ventilation, I have one of the filtration units below. I give it 3/5 stars for smoke removal...

You can most definitely do better (and much cheaper) with a strong overhead fan, an outside vent and good positive airflow.

Good luck brother! :cigar:

I would be one that @ZippoGeek was talking about with an electric blanket. Not sure who suggested it to me last year but so far this year it is awesome.
As for filtration, i just open the door and deal with it. In Missouri its a little easier than it would be for you northerners.

May not be ideal but you can use a Jet dust collector, order merv 13 filters from online vendor and add carbon, this is what I do, removes the odor overnight. it's like 300 bucks vs 1500 bucks. I use the 1000 series Jet, not the larger one, mine uses 12x24 filters, easy to find

I know my comment won't have anything to do with the garage set-up, but I'd suggest getting yourself some "whiff-out" product to put into your ashtray. It'll eliminate a lot of the ash odors which also might help once you get a ventilation/heater system set up as well. I sprinkle some of the powder into the bottom of my ash can in my truck and it really helps with some of the odor.
