After so many years of having some of the highest gas prices in the US, California is now closer to the national average (at least the places I use).

Nebraska Has Highest Gas Prices in U.S.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska edged Michigan to take the dubious honor of having the most expensive gas in the nation, according to a nationwide AAA gas price survey released Sunday.

At $3.34, the average price for a gallon of gas in Nebraska was down a little less than a cent from Saturday, but Michigan was down more than a cent and slightly lower than Nebraska.

That puts Nebraska at 29 cents above the national average -- $3.05 -- and the pain at the pump has some people cringing.

Wisconsin, Illinois and Hawaii join Nebraska and Michigan to round out the top five most expensive places to buy gas, all with prices between $3.28 and $3.34, according to AAA. The national average was down just one-hundredths of a cent from Saturday.

AAA gives South Carolina the cheapest gas ranking, at $2.83, followed by New Jersey, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi, all between $2.83 and $2.89.

The lowest price was in Tucson, Ariz., where a gallon of regular cost $2.80. The highest was in Chicago at $3.46, according to the Lundberg Survey of thousands of stations nationwide.

I live in Lincoln, NE. and the prices suck...thank goodness I live close to work so I walk but my wife filled up her car last night and it cost $48, She said she paid $3.29 per gal.

Price of oil be damned, there is no way anyone can logically justify the prices being this high....

One Hess a few miles out of the way was at $2.71 for a couple of weeks while everyone else was $2.89. Now it's at $2.85, and everyone else is still at $2.89-2.99.

I only use Chevron in my car and last week I filled up for $2.74.9 (whats up with the .9) near my buddies house and the Chevron station next door to my house was at $2.89.9. It was suggested to me a few months ago to try and fill up at night and ALWAYS top off the tank. Since doing so I have managed to pick up an extra 30-45 miles on a full tank. Thats my .02 worth.
