Some backstory:

"In a statement issued on his Facebook page, Roger Waters revealed the surprising news that his former Pink Floyd bandmate, David Gilmour, will be joining him for one date on Waters upcoming The Wall 30th Anniversary Tour to play the Pink Floyd classic, "Comfortably Numb." After years of acrimonious separation, it seems the pair have finally buried the hatchet.

Here's what Waters had to say:

"So here's what happened. Last year, 'The Hoping Foundation' a charity that supports Palestinian refugee kids, (www.hopingfoundation.org) put on a fund raiser at Ronnie Scott's Club in London, the idea of which was to raise money by auctioning karaoke performances by various celebrities. David was there as a supporter and was moved to perform an impromptu rendition of George Gershwin's 'Summertime?' which he performed aided and abetted by supermodel Kate Moss.

"In the wake of that evening, someone, I think it was David himself, came up with this 'Wouldn't it be funny', idea. What if he (David that is) were to sing the old Teddy Bears song 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' with me (Roger that is), what with us having been so famously at each other's throats for years and years. Get it!!!! Anyway he E-mailed me with this suggestion and I loved it, so then it was just a question of juggling dates and deciding to do 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Comfortably Numb' to round out our little set.

"Or so I thought, until he sent me a number of very musical and eloquent demos of how we could do the song in two-part harmony. I listened with a sinking heart, knowing that David, with his superior vocal skills, could sing either part standing on his head, whilst I would have to search for a different key and then struggle through hours and hours of routining a performance that lay way outside my vocal comfort zone. To my eternal shame I bottled out and told Dave I would happily do 'Wish You Were Here' and 'C. Numb', but that 'To Know him is to Love him' was beyond me.

"Some weeks passed with David cajoling me from time to time, telling me how easy it would be, but I clung resolutely to my fear of failure until one day he made one final entreaty. I quote "If you do 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' for The Hoping Foundation Gig, I'll come and do 'C. Numb' on one of your Wall shows". Well! You could have knocked me down with a feather. How fucking cool! I was blown away. How could I refuse such an offer. I couldn't, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shite, but if he didn't mind I didn't, I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was fucking great.

End of story. Or possibly beginning."

Roger

"PS. Just heard from David, he will decide in due course which gig he wants to do, it will be a surprise!"

Rumor is that Gilmour is supposed to join Waters in selected shows when he does the Wall. I remember seeing them back in the day at the Nassau Coliseum for the original Wall tour. If this is anything like that, it'll be well worth the ticket price. I know Gilmour is supposed to be at one of the MSG dates but they won't divulge anything so I guess its a roll of the dice. Only 1 show in Dc so I'm hoping Gilmour is there! G1

I have a lot of history with Pink Floyd. They played the first concert I ever saw in 1968 & though I didn't know what it was at the time, Gilmour was the first person I ever saw playing pedal steel guitar. I really enjoy their pre "Dark Side" music the best.

Roger has always been a egotistical prick and has not done shit for them other then scripting and singing some of the songs.. David and the rest of the band along with their studio engineers Alan Parsons and Andrew Jackson should get the nod for making that band what it is.. Not Roger "Lead Singer Syndrome" Waters.. I hope David shows up for the charity function makes roger look like complete has been and gracefully bows out..

Sorry for the rant but I am huge floyd fan and I just despise the way roger has treated his other band mates over the years..

Going to boston show. Been digging Animals a lot lately. Check out The Machine. A nasty bar band doing all periods of floyd - not too shabby.

Sorry man, but since reports are he's only making an appearance at one show I hope you are wrong:eyebrow: I'm going to the Columbus show and if he comes out on stage I might just get teary eyed. I agree with most of the comments about Waters but since I'm 31 and this is my first opportunity to see the closest thing to PF, I am totaly stoked! For many years I thought I would never have the opportunity to see any of these guys live. The Wall is not my favorite but it will certainly do. Man...what I would give to see them guys play the Animals album live.

I saw Rager Waters at the Hollywood bowl about 5 years ago, and loved it. Never really gave a crap about any band's personal lives. So I don't know who is a dork and who isn't, but the concert was awesome. Of course if you're hanging with me, a good light show is that much better.

How did I miss this ??

Apparently, it was for a charity show. Gilmour has said that he will pick one of Water's random tour dates to come play Comfortably Numb. Long video, but GREAT if you're a Floyd fan.

Where's the video? All I see is help some Palestinians, looks like the ones who were chanting, cheering, burning American flags, dancing in the streets on 9/11?
