While not nearly as scenic as Duane's trip, The Wife® and I are departing this evening for our own week-and-a-half vacation a-way down South where I was born. It'll be her first foray south of the Mason-Dixon Line on a whirlwind tour of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Gonna see The Kids©, The Grandkids™, and the rest of The Whole Famn Damily Pat. Pending

I just hope it doesn't get too hot for her. Otherwise, we'll be carryin' her around in a bucket...and maybe even this arctified Southern boy, too.

Well you're certainly traveling further than I did! LOL

So uh, whereabouts in Texas are you and The Family™®© going to be heading through?

It's snowing over half the state today, BTW. I wouldn't worry about it being too hot over the next few days.

Ah, sounds like you'll be driving up Hwy 59 outta Houston....

Well it's definately COLD here this week. The wacky Jet Stream deal had it snowing here earlier this morning! But don't worry--it'll be 80+ again in a few days, I'm sure.

It's close to Oklahoma, if you don't like the weather now, just wait 5 min. and it'll change............

Oweee. Crawfish and gumbo. Have fun dude.
You know, that is a good point...it's CRAWFISH SEASON right now! Shreveport has a bigassed Crawfish Festival every year called "Mudbug Madness" but unfortunately it's not till next month. But regardless, there should be plenty of bugs to be et down dere dis month!

If you're buying them to boil yourself, we've bought them as low as $1.99 lb.

Otherwise, we go to a local catfish/shrimp/oyster bar that sells them for $3.99 lb every Tues and Wed night during season.

The best place in town sells them for $7.00 lb...damn pricey, but awesome bugs!

Exactly, I don't boil them myself and just buy them already cooked and seasoned. $4 a pound is pricey considering you don't eat the bulk of the mudbug.
