My brother is getting married this weekend on Grand Bahama (Freeport) so I'll have my first visit to the island. Any recommendations/warnings regarding cigars? Rum?

From what I've gathered from other posts, CC are pretty pricey.

I recommend bringing good cigars with you. You will be bombarded with cheap fake CCs, as well as the 600lb woman with gout the size of a football yelling "mahn wan ganja?!" as soon as you get off the boat. Just my first-hand experiences in the USVI & BVI. :)

edit: If you make it to St. Thomas, check out Lum's for the goddamn best conch fritters on the planet!

Just about all the cc's in the Bahamas are fake. The only place I would trust is the Havana Humidor located in Atlantis. Really nice walk in humidor. And the last time I was there, they had a roller making fresh cigars. Pretty tasty too.

The whole Caribbean basin is served by a distributor called Caribbean Cigar, NV. They sell over 2,000,000 sticks a year. To say that all C.C.'s are fake is beyond ridiculous. Buy from the local LCDH, reputable merchants or at the various resort-owned shops, you will not get taken. If you are buying from some hole in the wall there is a good chance that you are going to be disappointed. Rule of thumb in the Caribbean: if they have a walk-in humidor, you will be pretty safe.

And yes, cigars are expensive in the Caribbean, mainly because the various island govt's. tax ALL cigars at between 100-200% of retail value.

reelman is spot on with pricing in the caribbean... huge taxes.. and tourists are the target market (people that will pay way above MSRP)... so prices are stupid high...

i havent been back to freeport since the late 1990's.. but if it were me... I'd bring my own... (I didnt see anything down there that I wanted back then at a price that I was willing to pay)...

I was at the Atlantis hotel a couple years ago, and the Havana Humidor is reputable, but yep, expensive as hell. But, you can go pretty much anywhere you want in the casino with a lit cigar, which is nice.
