I'm going to be going to Tulum for a kiteboard/surf trip for 10 days or so later this week. I was wondering a few things I could use some advice on. . .

1) what is the best way to get to Tulum from Cancun?
2) is it safe enough to take a nice camera?
3) do the lcdh's in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen carry anything special and out of the ordinary I should look for?

Thanks in advance

very cool, we rented a van and drove ourselves to Tulum. We hired a local guide for a tour of Tulum. I think he spoke better English than most of us. The drive is a couple of hours if I remember correctly, but is scenic enough. Not the most impressive of the Mayan ruins we saw, but the most picturesque. The Clear blue ocean water behind centuries old ruins was beautiful. Seeing it from the lineup would have been super cool. there were not any waves when we were there, but there was wind.

Its pretty safe Keith. The area is crawling with tourists so as long as you are careful (keep it on you, don't leave it lying around) you should be okay with a camera. There is a regular bus service down the coast between the airport (Cancun) and Playa Del Carmen. Not sure about Tulum but you could always catch the bus to Playa and then catch a taxi from Playa to Tulum. Don't know about the lcdh but there was a guy who worked at the lcdh in Playa posting on here for a while. Have a great trip! Hope you get some windy days.

It was a really nice place, I do have some bad memories from there though lol. I think the first time I was there I was maybe 10 or 12, went with my parents on a 95 degree day. We lasted maybe 1/2hr into the tour and had to give it up, there is a really nice beach/cove there that we ended up swimming at. Being that age and having to ride in a bus a couple hours with 3 lbs of sand in your bathing suit sucks lol.

Trips after that have been much better FYI lol. Have fun!

Thanks for the replies. Those pics of the Mayan ruins with the clear blue water in the background are pretty nice. I'd love to take several pics from the opposite angle - from the water with boards/kites in the foreground, and the beach and the ruins in the back.

And I was kind of figuring it was pretty safe seeing how it's pretty touristy - so I guess I'll probably take the better camera along. Just wanted other opinions. Thanks again.
