Hey everyone. I have always enjoyed cigars, but never had a stash of my own. I always went to the smoke shop and picked up one at a time on occasion. Since it was my birthday on Monday, I decided to treat myself to some cigars and some sort of storage solution so I can enjoy them once the weather gets nice here in NY. Do you gents reccommend an old fashioned humidor or a coolidor?

Welcome and enjoy!

I think it comes down to personal preference and the number of smokes you want to have on hand when looking at the humidor vs. coolidor. I personally went with a humidor to start off with.

Welcome

I have both. My personal preference is for a real humidor though. I only have the two coolers right now because I can't get any decent sized humidors shipped to me in Turkey. When I return to the states, however, I will be waiting on the proper moment and time to buy a large cabinet.

Welcome to the board.

I much prefer a real humidor. Started with one desktop now i have 5. Next purchase is a cabinet. The wife won't go for the coolidor...long story.

Unless you will be buying several boxes of smokes right off the bat, you can go with a regular desktop humidor. There is acctually a real nice one for sale in the trading zone. For an economical solution, you can use a tupperware container. Either way I would purchase some heartfelt beads from one of the sponsors here, for humidity. Look through the storage forum for ideas. Welcome aboard.

Eddie, I am originally from Queens (Douglaston), but got a job a year and a half ago in White Plains so I am living here for now. What part of Queens are you from?

Welcome Charlie! To answer your question, ask yourself if you are likely to be somewhat "OCD" in your hobbies. Hanging out around here tends to lend itself to obsessive purchasing/accumulation of cigars. If you have good self control and don't plan on buying boxes, go with the real humidor. Just go big. Trust me on this one. The bare, bare minimum should be a 50 count and you would be much served with 100+.

Best of luck and welcome aboard!

Welcome to the mix. I was in the same boat as you. I purchased a small 100 stick humidor recently and it has been great, however I am finding myself getting close to out of room from hanging out here!

Heed the advise here and go with a larger humidor than what you think you will need. Otherwise you will be maintaining 5 or more smaller ones which becomes a pain in the a$$.

And welcome!!
