bottom line is that we can not stop china or other developing countries from providing cheap labor. We also have to face that we have lost manufacturing jobs. But US companies can still make a lot of $ while selling goods made in China.

Lets take the cigar accessory industry for example. There are name brand US companies buying cigar lighters for about $2. The US company has a suggested list of $24.99 on these lighters. True street price is $19.99. So if you think about it in a simple manner, thats $2 for China, and $18 spread around in the US. Is that really that bad for the United States?

The only downside is that the money is going into the hands of the few as opposed to creating jobs here where the money would go into the hands of the many. However, I am a huge proponent of trickle down economics and I feel that the way the system works is by far the best option available.

The comments on the article seem more informed and accurate than the content of the article itself.

I understand that we all have to make a living... However, I'll pay more to buy American when I am able (or for that matter, anything other than Chinese). I'll shop & support local businesses & products every chance I get.

I met a guy online who owns a metal case manufacturing business. We met because I was looking for metal cases to convert to travel humidors. As his business grew, he was actually looking to set up a factory here in the US. While he was investigating his costs to set up in the US. He also visited his suppliers factory in China. While on his trip to China, he bought the Chinese case factory. This is a true story. His main reason was all the rules and regs that he would have to follow if he did his manufacturing here. Had nothing to do with wages, but was all the taxes and fees imposed by the local govt.

I know a guy here that sold his building in a downtown location but wanted to keep his engine shop so he bought some land and built a new building. Said it would be the last time that happened after he had issue after issue getting up to codes and had to spend over 30k on plants and grass for the parking lot.
