So I know there are a lot of discussions about how to train your pallet and how to pick up the individual flavors in a cigar. More than not, the actual flavor you get in the cigar differs from the item it is referencing.
I have found a great product that at least helped me with one of the flavors (chocolate or cocoa). It is Cacao Nibs. You can find them at any fru fru store (whole foods, trador joes, etc) and they are little bits of the actual cacao bean with nothing else in them that candy chocolate has (sugar, milk, other stuff). I picked them up not for my cigar needs but as a nutritious snack that would feed my chocolate needs without sugar.
Brand I got is Navitas from whole foods and they are nice and tender to chew (some can get hard and crunchy).
I knew what to expect before I tried them as they are bitter and nothing like any chocolate bar you have ever bad (>75% cacao bars get close though) but I didn't expect to immediately be met with flavors I have had in cigars. It is an earthy flavor with an enjoyable bitterness and a subtle dark chocolate taste with a creamy after tone (very subtle creamy though).
I have heard of chocolate references in cigar reviews and descriptions and always felt it was a stretch, but after having Cacao Nibs I see the resemblance spot on. If you are trying to train your pallet as I am, I encourage you to pick some up.
